Coma has variable causes. It could indeed be he is in the final state of dying. I watched my mother and husband go through that stage. It could be medically induced which is done for various severe medical conditions. He could have lost so much blood from his leg injury, subsequently or already removed by attack that his brain is permanently or temporarily in a coma. I’m sure there are other possibilities as well.
