Iranian American Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) on Monday said she is calling for the 25th Amendment and is introducing articles of impeachment against War Secretary Pete Hegseth due to the war in Iran.
Ansari’s move comes as President Donald Trump’s 8 p.m. Tuesday night deadline for Iran to agree to a peace deal. If one is not reached, the president promised the complete destruction of Iran's power plants and bridges.
“Trump is escalating a devastating, illegal war, threatening massive war crimes and targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran,” Ansari said. “In the last 48 hours alone, the rhetoric has crossed every line. Pete Hegseth is complicit.”

There are no hyphenated Americans.
Wish some of the critics would offer what laws are being broken by an “illegal war”. So far all I see is the President operating within his power to protect the US from all enemy’s, foreign and domestic.
Yes.
Right out of the lib playbook.
Once again democrats send a no name drone to try to gum up the works.
Who’s heard of this moron prior to this?
He can’t be impeached...geez...
“the president promised the complete destruction of Iran’s power plants and bridges.”
I’m opposed to the destruction of power plants. Substations might be taken out if they supply areas where a centrifuge is likely to be or are of great value to the IRGC or its leaders. I suspect we’ve probably zapped the missile factories.
Bridges should only be taken out for military reasons or to protect persons opposing the IRGC.
Trump should ask the Congress for more time. If Congress doesn’t give Trump more than 60 days, the last 10 days will be more destructive than optimal.

I think presidential cabinet members can be impeached. It’s highly unlikely to happen, but I think it’s legally possible.

Deport!
“Trump should ask the Congress for more time.”
Iran has had 47 years. Time’s up!

Ansari was born in Seattle, Washington, to parents who immigrated to the United States after fleeing Iran following the Islamic Revolution. Ansari grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona and attended Chaparral High School. In high school, she organized with the Arizona Democratic Party in support of Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and worked with her mother to tutor Somali refugees. Ansari attended Stanford University, and received a bachelor’s degree in international relations. During college, Ansari interned for Nancy Pelosi.
In August 2024, Ansari won the primary by 39 votes, and won the general election in the deep-blue district, winning nearly 71% of the vote.
Ansari had been endorsed by the pro-Israel lobby group Democratic Majority for Israel (DMFI), and supported continued U.S. military aid to Israel “without additional conditions” along with the expansion of the Abraham Accords during her 2024 election campaign. In November 2024, Ansari criticized a proposal by Senator Bernie Sanders that would block $20 billion in arm sales to Israel amid the Gaza war, saying, “this resolution will attempt to deprive Israel of the materials needed for deterrence and defense while also accomplishing nothing to improve the situation in Gaza.”
In January 2025, Ansari was among a minority of House Democrats who voted for legislation rebuking and sanctioning the International Criminal Court (ICC) and its officials over arrest warrants issued against Israeli leaders. Ansari said that the ICC’s actions were inappropriate and “as a liberal democracy with an independent judiciary, Israel has the responsibility of investigating allegations of wrongdoing”.
In June 2025, Ansari expressed support for the now-defunct Iran nuclear deal and opposed U.S. military intervention in Iran.
Ansari is agnostic.
Ansari also estimated in the disclosure that her assets were worth between $2.5 million and $8.3 million.

Per Google AI:
Yes, Cabinet members (secretaries of executive departments) can be impeached by the House of Representatives and tried by the Senate for “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors”. While rare, this process is available to Congress to remove appointed “civil officers”.
Key Facts on Cabinet Impeachment:
Constitutional Authority: Cabinet members are deemed “civil officers of the United States”.
Historical Examples: Only one Cabinet secretary, Secretary of War William Belknap, was formally impeached by the House in 1876. More recently, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was impeached by the House in early 2024.
Process: A simple majority in the House is needed for impeachment; a two-thirds vote in the Senate is required for conviction and removal.
Alternative: Cabinet members can be, and often are, fired directly by the President, making the difficult impeachment process unnecessary in most cases.
While impeachment of Cabinet members is possible, the rarity highlights that resignation is the common outcome when a secretary loses the confidence of Congress or the President.
