US prepares to use close to entire stealth missile arsenal as Iran strikes intensify - report

The United States is preparing to commit nearly its entire inventory of stealthy long-range JASSM-ER cruise missiles to its ongoing military campaign against Iran, Bloomberg reported on Saturday. The missiles are being drawn from stockpiles previously allocated to other regions as part of the next phase of operations.

The US has relied heavily on long-range standoff weapons such as the JASSM-ER in strikes on Iran, in part to limit risks to service members while targeting Iranian infrastructure, the report said.

US and Israeli officials said a significant portion of Iran’s air defense systems has been destroyed, enabling the use of cheaper munitions in some operations. However, recent incidents, including the downing of a US F-15E strike fighter, an A-10 attack aircraft, and damage to rescue helicopters from Iranian fire, highlight continued risks in the theater, Bloomberg reported.

More than 1,000 JASSM-ER missiles were used in the first four weeks of the war, a person familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. The same source added that an additional 47 missiles were used in a separate US operation targeting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The US has funded the procurement of more than 6,200 JASSM missiles since 2009, while production of the baseline version ended about a decade ago, according to the report. Lockheed Martin is scheduled to produce 396 JASSM-ER missiles in 2026, with the capacity to increase output to as many as 860 annually if production lines are fully dedicated.

It’s the equivalent of shooting at targets with pallets of cash.

So what? Were these missles made simply to sit in a warehouse somewhere? If all goes well the people of Iran will overthrow the Mozlems running it. That in turn could spread to other Islamic regimes just like the success of the American Revolution spread all over Europe and removed many of its Kings . Money well spent if that happens!

That was my exact thought.

Also it’s not like our military is stupid enough to disclose exactly what we have in our stockpile. Further these are older tech. Any bets we don’t have a whole pile of newer tech?

Way more than the cost of these munitions. WAY MORE!

I know nothing about this stuff. We probably have more missiles set aside, just in case — let’s say — China moves against Taiwan. I don’t imagine we would allow ourselves to be caught flat-footed.

But, just playing devil’s advocate — I do wonder if we make phone calls to places like China and ask:
“Are you planning on invading Taiwan this year?”
“Oh, no. Certainly not. We would never do that.”
“Well, that’s good. Because the US is really low on missiles. So, of course, we would have few options if you did invade Taiwan. Under the circumstances, I think our very first move would be to nuke the Three Gorges Dam. Which, of course, we would never do, because you would never invade Taiwan, right? Just trying to make sure everyone understands, so that nothing crazy happens. Have a nice day.”

Apparently the JP doesn’t mind gossip from the Bloomberg, who heard it in the Men’s room at Starbucks. The age of information has digressed to the Age of Disinformation.

This has psyop/disinformation written all over it. Trump isn't going to tell his enemy what he is going to do.

It's a leak to Bloomberg to use their credibility to authenticate a deception.

The effect on the target varies widely from dropping a pallet of cash, I would think.

The article seems to have omitted the info on what the headline states, at least I don't see it in the article.

One thing for sure is that, we have a lot less of those missiles and less of everything that the military needs, because, every time the democrats are in power, military spending goes down and funding for critical weapons systems is always cut. Trump has been very good at restoring military capabilities each time he's been in charge. But democrats never think of military spending as critical or necessary, and they'd rather spend the trillions of social programs and on giveaways and waste.

2 nukes ICBMs would take care of the problem. Sure their hair would get mussed a little!

I would be easy enough to figure out what the stockpile would be. The contractors publish lots of information through their annual reports and other open sources. If you know the production times/amounts/contracts…and make some basic assumptions (like, we haven’t used them in a war) it is likely you will come up with an estimate that is 80-85% accurate.

The thing about a Military Industrial Complex is that they like reports, papers, and bragging.

That is what gathering intelligence is all about.
