New Trump Budget Proposes Big Defense Budget Boost, Welfare Cuts
The American Conservative ^ | Joseph Addington | Joseph Addington

President Donald Trump proposed Friday a $1.5 trillion defense budget for 2027, a dramatic increase that would mark one of the largest Pentagon funding requests in decades and underscores his push to prioritize military spending over domestic programs.

The budget blueprint, released by the White House, would cut non-defense spending by 10 percent and shift some responsibilities to states and local governments.

The plan also calls for maintaining immigration enforcement funding, increasing Justice Department spending by 13 percent, adding money for air traffic controller hiring and setting aside $10 billion for National Park Service beautification projects in Washington.

The increases to military spending in the budget will be paid for by cuts to domestic spending, including welfare. “We’re fighting wars. We can’t take care of daycare,” Trump said at a private White House event Wednesday.

“It’s not possible for us to take care of daycare, Medicaid, Medicare—all these individual things,” he said. “They can do it on a state basis. You can’t do it on a federal.”

“It’s not possible for us to take care of daycare, Medicaid, Medicare—all these individual things,”

NO on Medicare (or Social Security) cuts.

I've not taken any welfare all my life. I've only paid taxes and paid into Medicare and SSI.

Now that I'm finally getting some of that money back, I do NOT want them cut, or leave them up to states' discretion.

Get rid of the preschool stuff. We know that it does not improve intelligence. All it does is let mom go back to bed. It's become a babysitting service. I taught all my kids to read and write.

I had to teach my granddaughter cursive and times tables.

Where in the Constitution does it say the
Federal government must provide
medical care?
That is a states rights issue.

So much for not targeting our Medicare.

The WH proposed budget is here:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/budget_fy2027.pdf

Medicare is funded by FICA taxes and is not changed/affected by budget proposals... the Medicare trust funds are doing better than the Social Security old age & survivors fund...the only part running in the the red is the “Part D” fund (as of 2023, I didn’t find the 2025 #’s in my brief search):

https://taxpolicycenter.org/briefing-book/what-medicare-trust-fund-and-how-it-financed

The WH proposed FY 2027 budget doesn’t list net deficits or surpluses this year in the “Summary Charts” section at the end of the budget PDF file like it has in past years (I have taken a look at WH proposed budgets for the past 10 years or so). (Too embarrassing to show a grand total deficit of over a Trillion $’s ?!?) Who knows? You have to go to outside sites for FY 2027 proposed budget deficit summaries:

Get rid of the preschool stuff. Picture this, a women with kids from several men unmarried of course enrolls her kids in free daycare that we pay for to get rid of them for the day while she eats cheese doodles and fast food, watches tv, smokes pot and does her nails. Maybe not in all cases but in many

Watch what the uniparty Congress does here, they yelp a little bit for their constituents back home but ALWAYS pass spending bills with a countless billions of pork. This is exactly how we got in $40,000,000,000,000 of debt. I don’t blame the state-level crooks near as much as the corruptician Congress members for redistributing our wealth in the first place.

Agreed, especially when the government FORCES you on Medicare when you hit 65 with permanent financial penalties for not signing up promptly.

I retired and get Medicare and SS. I still pay the max Medicare part B so about $360 a month for the wife and I and another $600 per month for our BCBS supplemental.

Medicare, Medicaid and SS all need to go away by phasing them out. So should unemployment benefits and SNAP and any other government handouts. No section 8 housing or anything. You are responsible for you not the government and I’m damn sure not responsible for anyone else but me so my money should stay with me.

“So much for not targeting our Medicare.”

Trump is going after the fraud in medicare/medicaid. That’s what will be cut from the budget. That was one of DOGE’s objectives.

You could be right, but the government took the money so we’re owed Medicare and Social Security.

“ I've not taken any welfare all my life. I've only paid taxes and paid into Medicare and SSI.”

Ditto here. Cut the “welfare” budget of the healthy lazy working age leeches! Their selfish shortsighted work ethic cannot and should not be rewarded.

> So much for not targeting our Medicare.<

Do you consider stopping Medicare for illegals a cut? Is stopping Medicare fraud and coverage for dead people considered a cut?

When they started the program, it was a part time thing...like 3 hours in the morning. The parent had to go, too. The children went in the play room. The parents talked about their kids and home life. It wasn’t intended to educate the children, it was about socializing. Didn’t do it for very long.

It’s not in the Constitution you are correct. Neither is stealing your paycheck and promised back to you when you retire.
