Iran boasted Saturday that a new air defense system — credited with shooting down two US planes — will allow it to “definitely achieve full control” over its airspace as American and Israel forces continued to hammer the country.
Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya joint military command made the bold claim on state media, Reuters reported.
The besieged Islamic Republic could have used a Third Khordad missile system, a mobile medium-range surface-to-air defense system, to shoot down the F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet, The New York Times reported.
Other experts suspect that Iran used passive infrared detection systems to track and target the US aircraft – meaning it tracked the F-15E without emitting radar signals that US jets are equipped to detect and evade, according to ABC News.
That $31 million plane is believed to have gone down in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province in the southwestern part of Iran, near the Iraqi border. The pilots were forced to bail, and while one was rescued after the Friday incident, the second has yet to be found.

My guess is, it's an improvement but has not proved it makes them "in full control."

15Es aren’t exactly a hard target for SAMs any more. The 15E, unlike the later EX models, doesn’t have *any* IR suppression and it’s a huge radar target.
Whatever system they used should now be easily located as we’ve been told they don’t have much left in their arsenal.
And with our military spending, I expect we have the ability to takeout it immediately if it has not already been done.

The distance from the Iran border to the Russian border (Dagestan) is barely 100 miles. Russian trucks carrying munitions can easily and probably are making their way into Iran via Azerbaijan. The USAF should blow up these highways. No traffic should be allowed in from Azerbaijan.
What’s really interesting is that Chinese stuff doesn’t appear to be holding up well in combat conditions. Their radars in Venezuela didn’t detect anything. Their tanks in the Thai/Cambodia border war were getting stuck and their gun barrels were exploding when a shel was fired. There’s some indications (see youtube: Lei’s Real Talk) that Xi is purging the PLA’s top acquisition officers and many of the top scientists/engineers, as the weapons failures are pointing to overblown claims and standard Chinese corruption in the development process.
Does chaff still work for radar guided missile defense?
