Vance says new assistant AG will make sure 'no fraud' is small or big enough to 'look away from'

Vice President JD Vance said Wednesday the Justice Department will no longer "turn a blind eye" to fraud in the United States, regardless of how big or small the fraud is.

Vance made the comment just before he swore Assistant Attorney General for National Fraud Enforcement Colin McDonald into office, who has been confirmed to help lead Vance's national fraud task force.

The vice president claimed that the DOJ previously "turned a blind eye" toward fraud that was under an undisclosed dollar amount, but that McDonald has promised to ensure that "no fraud is small enough or big enough to look away from."

"Our entire social safety net, our entire idea of neighbors helping out neighbors, of Americans helping out Americans, is premised on the idea that only the people who really need these programs get them," Vance said. "That when the American taxpayer sends money to a program, it goes to somebody in their community who has the legal right to be here [and] has the legal right to actually benefit from these programs.

"Our sense of social trust, our sense of belonging, our sense that we help each other out, but we help out the people in our community, not the fraudsters who are getting rich off of our generosity," he added.

Vance said he has been "surprised" by the Justice Department's failure to prosecute smaller fraud cases and claimed prosecuting all fraud should serve as a warning to illegal migrants.

It is amazing and surreal, the Congress for decades have charged US taxpayer and paid out all manner of liars, cheats, and frauds ... under the color of ‘charity’...

If "charity" and "generosity" are enforced at gunpoint, they are neither. No collectivized system is ever accountable for actually succeeding at care for the poor. It's one of those "You can't get there from here that way" situations.

Would marrying your brother be fraud if it was done for “gain” by either party?

“Show us perp walks please.”

Its all just another DC show. As usual there will be lots of investigations and exposure but no real consequences or accountability.

Walz has nothing to fret about. The odds of him being held accountable for enabling massive fraud are near zero. We simply don’t punish high level fraud and corruption.

Respectfully, I do not agree.

In my observation, J.D. has a lot of energy, he's smart, and I love the perspective, that if connecting generic "fraud" to the specifics on who's committing it (illegal aliens). Consider...

Vance said he has been "surprised" by the Justice Department's failure to prosecute smaller fraud cases and claimed prosecuting all fraud should serve as a warning to illegal migrants.

Not a fanboy of the bearded one.

That said, this is a huge opportunity to show he can LEAD.

Trump appointees have been mediocre at best leading departments and showing administrative competence.

Public administration at all levels of gubmint is inefficient and ineffective if not just outright corrupt.

For Our Republic’s survival, I hope he succeeds and if does he will have something to hang his hat on come 2028.

The history of VP’s accomplishing much has not been good.

So is there somewhere we can turn this smaller fraud in? I turned someone in for 5 years of Medicaid fraud. She was working the whole time and didn’t turn it in. So far.....squat. Once a year Medicaid has recipients fill out a renewal. But all paperwork is done by the recipient and Medicaid just accepts what they put down. They should at least have to turn in bank statements, etc. Medicaid also works with other institutions that can do data searches but they don’t. No wonder everyone frauds them.

The one Somali found guilty in MN for stealing 250M got one year in prison.
Most likely the $ is sitting in a off shore bank waiting for his prison release.

We can investigate, prosecute, and express outrage until we are blue in the face, but nothing will change unless Congress addresses the laws that enable the fraud in the first place.

I don’t doubt that Vance is well intentioned and in fact hope that he succeeds in producing some prosecutions, but the DC bureaucracy is infested with liberals that have no incentive to punish fraud that benefits their party. The other concern is that Republicans don’t have a good track record of holding people accountable. So color me skeptical.

BTW thanks for the respectful reply. Its refreshing to see someone disagree without being disagreeable or offensive. You set a good example.

A FRAUD HOTLINE (if it's not already in place) would be an excellent idea!

Nice post!

Maybe, perhaps, Congress has a vested interest in the fraud...
