Artemis II
NASA.gov ^ | April 1, 2026

Posted on 04/02/2026 4:56:51 AM PDT by equaviator

The first crewed Artemis flight marks a key step toward long‑term return to the Moon and future missions to Mars.

Artemis II builds on the success of the uncrewed Artemis I in 2022, and will demonstrate a broad range of capabilities needed on deep space missions.

The Artemis II test flight will be NASA’s first mission with crew aboard the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft.

Orion is developed to be capable of sending astronauts to the Moon and is a crucial step toward eventually sending crews on to Mars.

The Orion spacecraft will serve as the exploration vehicle that will carry and sustain the crew on Artemis missions to the Moon and return them safely to Earth.

Visit the Artemis II multimedia resource collection to view and download curated image galleries, live mission coverage, behind-the-scenes videos, podcasts, and more.

Yeah, I watched it live on NASA TV and YouTube. In 1969, we were given the impression that the seriousness of everything going on during launch day was a matter of complete zenith paramountcy. Much of yesterday's launch coverage by NASA TV failed to capture that. They overembellished so much of the emotional aspect that for a moment there, I thought maybe I should have been holding somebody's hand to help me get through it without being traumatized in the process.

We watched it on Fox News and saw nothing but blue sky and som graphics. Terrible coverage amounting to non coverage.

I’ll look it up on YouYube this morning

Was it as exciting as India’s trip to the moon?

The coverage and commentary reminded me of the way Olympics coverage ruined things.

I watched outside in Central Florida in exactly the same place that I watched the last Saturn V launch, which was a night launch.

The SpaceX broad=cast team set the bar high on one of their manned launches. NASA tried but just couldn’t pull it off. Not even one shot from inside the cockpit. That was disappointing.

Yes, of course...but "How did that make you feel"?

Awful camera work and commentary — felt like we were back in the 70s. Embarrassing.

I watched it on The Everyday Astronaut’s feed via YouTube. He did a pretty good job other than gushing too much. However, he was around in 1969

Good grief are you ever right. That was my impression as well. Every time the coverage would switch to the mostly female commentators I had to turn the sound down. Too much discussion of emotion and feelings. No discussion of science (if any during this mission... seems to me as more of a stunt than anything else... and don't get me started on the DEI aspect of the crew... token white guy, token black guy, token female, and token foreigner!). Illustrates the dumbing down of the coverage.

No lunar lander or testing on this flight.

“Illustrates the dumbing down of the coverage.”

I noticed I was supposed to celebrate being a human rather than being an American. The Canadian said he was doing it for humanity, or something like that.

Also, all the little girls, and especially little girls of color, were supposed to look at that launch and discern, somehow, that nothing is impossible for them to accomplish.

I’m appalled at all the online comments, people from all political sides, who believe Apollo was fake, and Artemis is fake. I don’t want to share a world with absolute psychopaths like this.

I expected there was. But they didn’t show any of it during the launch sequence which would have been very cool.

I agree, NASA sounded like an ‘encounter group’ or some shit like that. They need to get past all the over-the-top emotion and simply explain what the hell is going on.

I watched on CSPAN. They had several different camera views, little commentary other than mission parameters.

I was most impressed by the engine views. When the (solid fuel?) boosters ignited, the liftoff started immediateley.
