Reports from Iranian opposition sources indicate that Hassan Hassanzadeh, commander of the Rasul-Allah forces - the IRGC’s security unit in greater Tehran - was eliminated yesterday in an airstrike [on March 29, 2026 on Sabouni Street in Tehran and also resulted in the death of one of his deputies, though his identity has not been confirmed.]
At this stage, there is no official confirmation of the reports.

Hassanzadeh served as the Brigadier General and commander of the Mohammad Rasulallah Corps, the IRGC unit tasked with overseeing security in Tehran and its surrounding areas. His responsibilities included command over Basij forces and coordination of internal security operations, particularly during periods of civil unrest.
Hassanzadeh, as commander of the IRGC's Mohammad Rasulallah Corps in Tehran, played a central role in the violent suppression of the December 2025–January 2026 protests.
He oversaw IRGC and Basij forces responsible for deploying live ammunition, tear gas, and mass arrests against largely peaceful protesters in Tehran. Security operations under his command included raids on hospitals to detain injured demonstrators, a tactic documented in Tehran and other provinces. The crackdown resulted in dozens of civilian deaths, including children, with human rights groups estimating over 3,400 killed and tens of thousands arrested nationwide.
Hassanzadeh was part of the regime's hardline response, aligning with Supreme Leader Khamenei’s directive to treat protesters as “rioters” who must be “put in their place.” His forces were specifically implicated in violent dispersals in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, Shoush, Molavi, and university areas, where internet blackouts and media restrictions were used to obscure the scale of repression.
He was a sanctioned individual by several Western governments, including the UK and Canada, due to his involvement in human rights violations during the crackdown on anti-government protests in 2022. The U.S. Treasury designated him under Executive Order 13553 for acting on behalf of the IRGC, which is designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
