Rubio Torches George Stephanopoulos As He Lays Out Iran War Objectives: 'You Should Write Them Down'
Town Hall ^ | 3/30/26 | Dmitri Bolt

Posted on 03/30/2026 5:29:21 PM PDT by EnderWiggin1970

Secretary of State Marco Rubio criticized ABC News host George Stephanopoulos for continuing to push the narrative that Operation Epic Fury lacks clear objectives, as the administration works to maintain public support for the war.

As rumors of “unclear objectives” spread, concerns have grown that the conflict with Iran could mirror Iraq or Afghanistan, prolonged wars marked by years of fighting, heavy casualties, and the deployment of ground troops without a decisive endgame.

"This operation, okay, and that's what this is. It's about very specific objectives. The president laid them out on the first night of the operation," Rubio said. "I'll repeat them to you now because I hear a lot of talk about: we don't know what the clear objectives are. Here they are. You should write them down."

"Number one, the destruction of their Air Force. Number two, the destruction of their Navy. Number three, the severe diminishing of their missile launching capability. And number four, the destruction of their factory so they can't make more missiles and more drones to threaten us in the future."

"All of this so that they can never hide behind it to acquire a nuclear weapon," Rubio added. "That was our objective from the beginning. That remains our objective now. We are on pace and, in fact, ahead of schedule on some of those things, and we are going to achieve those things in a number of weeks, not in a number of months."

OK, IMO this article is an absolute disaster for the Trump administration. Like an awful lot of people, I've been confused and wondering what on earth Trump actually has in mind and what his strategy is for the war against Iran, because it hasn't been spelled out what we are trying to accomplish. How can a general work out a strategy to get from point A to point B if he doesn't know what B is? How can a soldier fight effectively if he doesn't know what he is fighting for?

And now we get this nonsense from Rubio, that confuses the MEANS with the ENDS. Degrading the Iranian military is the MEANS by which strategic ends can hopefully be achieved. They are not the ends themselves, unless we are back to the mindless Neocon mindset of glorying in killing people and blowing things up without any point to it all (sit down, Lindsey Graham.)

So I'll ask again: President Trump, what is the POINT to all this mayhem? What is the end state you are trying to accomplish? Because if you just "declare victory" at some point with the IRGC/Basij still running around in control of things and ample enriched uranium still in their hands, it's not going to be a meaningful victory.

If a surviving Iranian regime cobbles together nukes in a few years and uses them in a campaign of vengeance, I rather doubt they’ll be targeting a small town in Wyoming. So it’s really not my problem in any major sense, but it will be for a lot of other people at that point.

It appears you are not thinking clearly. If you destroy their missiles, their ability to make missiles, their drones, their ability to make drones, their anti-aircraft defenses, their Air Force, their Navy, their ability to make weapons, the how will they be able to make nuclear weapons to threaten the world with?

They cannot, because we can destroy their program to do so at will. We do not need to occupy the whole country to accomplish that.

The USA and Israel do not want to “change the regime” in Iran.
We are NOT going to install a new leader.
What they want to do is provide the Iranian people
an opportunity to do that for themselves.

Whatever they chose to do will not matter to anyone else,
but their country will no longer be able to
threaten or harm any other country.
They will be completely de-fanged and de-clawed.

No air force; no navy; no nuclear capability,
no missile production capabilities, no missile storage,
no missile launchers, no missiles,
no drone production, no radars.
No military or financial support for the 3 “H’s”
(Hamas, Hezbollah; Houthi)
NOTHING.

Our involvement will be over
When there are no targets left.

Whoever/whatever the Iranians choose to do in the future,
It will only effect themselves, not any one else.
They will be a threat to no one.

Oil will flow freely throw the Straights of Hormuz,
Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Saudi Arabia,
The UAE, Kuwait, and Yemen can relax a bit.

Confused people often believe their confusion is shared by an awful lot of people.

How are they going to do that? It can only happen if the west allows it to happen.

If you are truly confused then you are a blithering idiot since Trump has been clear. So, since I really don’t think you are a blithering idiot, I can only surmise you are trolling.

And they are on course to allow exactly that, with all this rush to talk about negotiations and appearing seemingly desperate to bring about a quick end to the war. The Iranian leadership has been seeing that, and rather than sounding defeated and cowed, has been mocking Western proposals and negotiating points. So it doesn’t sound like the happy-talk of the Trump administration is panning out.

Well that is not going to happen precisely because of this action. That is the reason for this action

Trump has been clear

OK, so if he has been clear, give me a link, any link, offering that clarity.

I see I've poked a nerve here, but the responses have all been, to put it charitably, rather unenlightening.

What Iranian leadership? Who is in charge? I don’t see any coherent leadership.

What I hear are a death cult’s unwillingness to accept reality, because reality is opposite of what they believe.

At this point I'm laughing myself silly, because one Trump cultist after another is insisting it's all clear and I'm so stupid... but can't point to a blessed thing as to what the objectives supposedly are. Thanks for making my point for me, guys.

You refuse to accept Rubio s clear explanation.

You have no good reason for your refusal.

He is Secretary of State.
