Iran appears to be setting itself up as the gatekeeper for the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important artery for oil shipments. The move could cement Tehran’s de facto chokehold over the crucial waterway and formalize its ability to keep its own oil flowing to China.
Iranian communications to the United Nations maritime authority and the experience of ships transiting the Strait suggest the creation of something akin to a “toll booth.” Ships must enter Iranian waters and be vetted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. At least two vessels have paid for passage.
Traffic through the Strait has fallen by 90% since the start of the Iran war, sending global oil prices skyrocketing and inflicting alarming shortages on the Asian nations that get their oil from Persian Gulf countries via the Strait.

Yeah, no. To paraphrase Ayatollah Ubama, the Strait of Hormuz, you didn’t build that.
AP - trash as usual. As if Trump would let them get away with it.
Once again, The Ape Pee acts as the communications minister for Iran.
The IR cannot be allowed to hold the world hostage to ensure their continued rein of terror. This should have been done decades ago.
Amen, bro.
This is getting pretty bizarre because the world really can’t afford to allow Iran to continue to exercise a form of piracy over that choke point.
One way or another that regime and it’s control over the straight has to be eliminated.
At this point it’s a little absurd because so many layers of their leadership have been killed that it’s unclear what regime is even trying to do this any longer.
I think the radicals are just trying to survive and we can’t afford to let them do that.
Nothing but a fantasy, Iran has no way of enforcing this, no way to collect and no way to not die the moment they try to impede a ship to collect.
This story is propaganda to fool the ignorant liberals and try to win a PR campaign that America is losing.
They have no blockade so they can’t run a “toll booth”. All they are able to do now is make it risky for a ship to get through by taking shots at them. Their ability to take these shots is being degraded. They are more like two bit thugs trying to run a protection racket...”would be a shame if something happened to that ship of yours...”—but the more their ability to actually threaten ships erodes they are at risk at being nothing but a toy dog that barks a big game but has no bite left.
My bet is Shiite IRGC has been planning for years to institute choke point Hormuz. To extract tribute from Sunni Saudi and other Sunni crude sellers upstream. Crude buyers too.
Japanese are wealthy enough to pay IRGC 2 million per tanker, as a cost of doing business.
That shit did not float in 1802. I am pretty sure the world isn’t going to put up with it today.
Yeah, that’ll work.
/s
That’s nothing. I am starting a toll for every road on the globe. $1 per mile. I have just as much chance of collecting as Iran does on theirs.
I picture Baghdad Bob announcing their toll.
Seems a couple of guys with A-10’s could make short work of any toll booth.
Saudis would probably build a pipeline to bypass the toll.
AND...So we know they're looking for money...
No doubt....they're looking for a deal...
That’s just flat-out piracy and unacceptable. Kill Iranians and blow up their stuff until it stops.
After Trump met with Putin, Putin started storing oil in ships etc. after Europe stopped buying it.
So Russia is now sending oil to the Philippines because of the oil shortage.
and India is sending their Navy to accompany their ships.
They want the global Left to push towards electric vehicles. This toll booth allows them more power.
I think the threat is just that: a threat. Ships can / could navigate safely thru the “Persian Sphincter“ now.
