Hungary's opposition Tisza party widens lead over Orban's Fidesz, poll says

Hungary's centre-right opposition Tisza party has widened its lead over Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz in March, a poll showed on ‌Wednesday, ahead of an April 12 election where the veteran nationalist is ‌seeking re-election.

Orban, seeking to retain his 16-year grip on power, is facing a strong challenger for the first time in a parliamentary vote, with the outcome having major implications not only for Hungary but for Europe and its far-right political forces.

The poll, published by new site hvg.hu, showed Tisza gaining ground while Fidesz's support was stagnating despite numerous voter-pleasing measures announced by the government ‌after three years of economic stagnation.

Tisza, which was only launched in 2024, has widened its lead over Fidesz to 23 percentage points among decided voters, up from a 20-point lead in a February survey, pollster Median said.

Led by former government insider Peter Magyar, Tisza had the support of 58% of decided voters, up from 55% a month ago. Fidesz was supported by 35%, unchanged from February.

When looking at the entire population, Tisza was supported by ‌46%, while Fidesz was backed by 30%, according to the survey conducted between March 17 and 20.

If Tisza seeks to submit itself to EU rule rather than contesting it as Orban has done, then it is not “conservative” in practice or effect no matter what its leaders say or tell themselves. It will only be a Hungarian version of “RINO” designed to enable EU bureaucratic hegemony.

As long as the EU persists, this is the future for every country.

If the EU supported opposition wins, it wins.

And if Orban wins they get some version of the Romania cancelled election.

The opposition is center-right?

Freely elected, conservative, Viktor Orban has a grip on power?

The Hard Left propaganda machine never sleeps!

How many millions of dollars is the US contributing to Orban’s opponent? Not that we would interfere with another country’s elections. With Tisza’s we can look forward to the Islamic republic of Hungary. Gay pride parades? Well that’s progress for you.

After doing quite a bit of reading, it appears to me that Tisza is just as “conservative” when it comes to letting in masses of Muslim immigrants as is Fidesz. Maybe even more so, in some ways.

On social issues, Tisza is also just as “conservative”* as Fidesz, and it is quite strong regarding national security. It leans toward being pro-Europe (vs. Russia) while not being overly subservient to the EU. (An interesting position.) In terms of anti-corruption, Tisza’s positions are far superior (but we’ll see if that holds up in practice.)

When it comes to government “bennies” to the public, Orban / Fidesz is VERY liberal, with Tisza not far behind (but accused by some of being in favor of “austerity measures”.) After reviewing the results of the informal poll “Voice of the Nation”, in Hungary, I can only conclude that in this area, Hungarians are the absolute opposite of the concept of “TANSTAAFL”, and eventually will pay dearly for it. :-(

Now, if you are one of the Pooty supporters, then the poll numbers from various polls in Hungary do not look so good. Orban has overstayed his welcome.

Orban has been in power for decades. Some of his gov is corrupt and Hungarians want a change.

Tisza is also conservative

There is no evidence of direct US government funding to the Tisza party.

The Tisza Party defines itself as a conservative, centre-right party. Its leader, Péter Magyar, is a former Fidesz insider who holds traditional Hungarian values. Regarding migration—the usual catalyst for such “Islamic republic” rhetoric—Tisza’s official platform actually supports strict border protection and maintains the existing border fence. They differ from Orbán not on the goal of restricted migration, but on the method, preferring to negotiate within EU frameworks rather than through constant vetoes

Tisza is Donald Tusk. Campaign moderate and go full EU liberalism after the election.

They will speedrun the entire Globohomo agenda: abortion, gay marriage, euthanasia, teen gender garbage, funding to Ukraine. And they will flip flop on mass immigration and “asylum” just like Tusk and Meloni and Takaichi did.

“What do you know about the Tisza party platform, may I ask?”

No less than any of the rest of us. Because Tisza has concealed their plans on what they characterize as “divisive” social issues.

And made promises similar to Tusk, Meloni and Takaichi on immigration and asylum which are quickly broken after the election.

Well, we all know what that means. Campaign as a centerist and then go full globohomo after the election, and try to create irreversible leftist changes.
