Trump and R.N.C. Lean Toward Dallas for an Unusual Midterm Convention
The New York Times ^ | March 24, 2026 | Shane Goldmacher

President Trump and the Republican National Committee are strongly considering Dallas as the site of an unusual midterm convention later this year, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions. Republicans are working to finalize the plan as they seek to rally their voters in the face of political headwinds.

Some details must still be finalized, including the exact dates, and officials said formal paperwork still needed to be signed.

But Trump advisers who are looking to parade their candidates and rally the base are close to settling on Dallas over other options, which had included Las Vegas, according to the people, who were granted anonymity to share private planning information.

The party is targeting a date after Labor Day to try to maximize early-voting momentum.

Political parties typically hold conventions once every four years, only when nominating a presidential candidate and formalizing their platform. But Mr. Trump has pushed for a major gathering before this year’s midterm elections to motivate his supporters at what is expected to effectively amount to a major rally for the party.

Dallas is named for a Democrat (Polk’s Vice President).

Don’t do it at all. The weak GOP don’t deserve it.

Um, they do it to replace the RINOS, which is who you referring to. So, no, do it and make a difference.

No, they are overrunning the suburbs. Plano, Richardson, Arlington.

All of that is Dallas area.

Houston area isn’t far behind, from what I’ve seen. No Epic City, but ... lots of gathering facilities.

I don’t think Dallas is a good place for presidents to go.
At least not in convertibles……it’s also too close to the border and terrorist cells could be lurking.

He’ll be going into his final 2 years and needs a tail wind politically. Are the rest of the republicans into it? Maybe they’ll need to come out of it with a contract like Newt did 30 years ago. Just 4-5 promises. Health care, immigration, and a couple of 80-20 issues up front. Watch the voters follow.

I saw folks on Reddit complaining about the late night noise from the celebrations at the EPIC compound in east Plano. Apparently there were enthusiastic celebration of the latest holiday. They’ve reached the point where they don’t have to be good neighbors on that side of town.

The compound in central Plano keeps a lower profile.

Yes very good idea. A major national Trump rally as campaign season traditionally opens. Get a good national platform out there for candidates to run on. It worked in 1994, when Newt Gingrich led the GOP to both its first House majority and control of senate in 40 years.

Trump has claimed for years that he has a great health plan to replace Obamacare, but he never shows it. I think it would be a big mistake to bring it up now.
