This must be a record or near to for casualties from a ground collision. The poor ATC guy will never recover from what he saw.
Wow, photo at the link showing damage is impressive for a 24 mph (stated in the article) collision.
On 27 March 1977, two Boeing 747 passenger jets collided on a runway at Los Rodeos Airport on the Spanish island of Tenerife, killing 583 people and injuring 61 others in the deadliest accident in aviation history.
I am waiting for a DEI angle to emerge from this.
Thanks. Search still DOESN’T work. sometimes. :)
Tenerife in 1977, was partially a ground collision and it was hundreds killed.
Lord Nelson found his battle there disarming. Tenerife, that is.
Have yet to hear or read anything about the people in the ground vehicle
It appears the fire truck was cleared to cross the runway and was hit by Air Canada that had just landed and was rolling down the runway.
I’m very curious what the cause of the “emergency” declaration from the United pilot was that got the fire truck rolling and started this chain of events.
Check earlier threads. Both in hospital.
I have to hand it to you. Good one
Dozens of articles and you pick one behind a pay wall...

They are going to bore into that guys head. He really screwed up. It is always good to track what is going on, so a little on the pilots to listen, but most blame goes on ATC. I had a similar mistake happen to me. We all gave it a shout when ATC messed up.
