Ukraine defies Trump by ruling out 2026 presidential elections

Ukraine should not hold elections this year, officials from the country’s electoral commission have concluded, setting Kyiv on a collision course with the United States.

Members of the official working group on elections were due to present draft legislation to parliament late last month, but told The Times they had yet to resolve key questions on how to secure fair elections free from Russian attacks or interference.

They plan to continue deliberating on the issue until at least the end of May. The group has agreed, however, that Ukraine should only enter a campaign period at least six months after the necessary legislation is debated, passed and a ceasefire is established, in effect ruling out a presidential ballot this year.

Zelensky is barking because he isn’t a big deal anymore. All that money that was pilfered from US taxpayers and they gave up their freedom for no freedom.

They don’t even get to vote. Oh well, they probably would just have had cheater elections like ours and Europe’s are anymore.

“Zelensky is barking because he isn’t a big deal anymore.”
True. Like a child acting out……because negative attention is better than no attention at all.

The entire Ukie government is corrupted and on the take. St Z isn’t the only corrupted one, their Rada (Congress) can change things and push to vote for elections.

Their entire government is one big filthy toilet….at least Trump is no longer flushing our tax $$$$$$ down that toilet.

If we could hold a presidential election during the Civil War, Ukraine can certainly hold an election.

“If we could hold a presidential election during the Civil War, “

We sure did. Both sides managed it. I triggered a Ukie when I mentioned the CSA managed it even though they were in a worse position than Ukraine. He came back with some argle-bargle that he was an American and it was a fake election because Jeffrson Davis was unopposed.

Zelinski is a dictator.

Zelensky agreed to Trump's plan of a total ceasefire, which Putin rejected.

Zelensky Election Timeline: If a ceasefire is secured, Zelensky stated that Ukraine could move to hold elections within 60 to 90 days.

By their Constitutional law, they cannot hold an election during a war. The Russians and 47 say they must. Whose side is 47 on, anyway?

The entire Putin government is corrupted and on the take.

AI Overview

Vladimir Putin’s rule is characterized by institutionalized, “mafia-style” corruption where loyalists manage state assets for personal enrichment, transforming Russia into a kleptocracy. Wealth is hidden through a vast network of oligarch trustees, with estimates suggesting Putin has amassed over billion. The system uses bribes and patronage to secure power, often employing associates from the 1990s

Key elements of corruption under Vladimir Putin include:
Systemic Kleptocracy: Corruption is not just bribery, but an integrated governing tool where loyalty to the center determines economic rewards.

Oligarch Trustees: Wealth and property are held in the names of family members or loyal cronies, such as Arkady Rottenberg, who received lucrative contracts.

The “Palace” Investigations: The Anti-Corruption Foundation (ACF) revealed a massive, lavish palace complex on the Black Sea allegedly built for Putin using funds diverted from state projects.

St. Petersburg Connections: Early corruption allegations involved involvement with organized crime groups like Tambov and Malyshev during the 1990s and laundering money through companies like SPAG.

Weaponized Corruption: Corruption is used to manage domestic elites and to exert influence or destabilize foreign nations.

Despite officially moderate incomes, Putin has been linked to vast personal wealth, including yachts, planes, and properties, which he has dismissed as “rubbish”. Corruption is now deemed central to Russian governance, with 80% of Russians in a 2017 poll believing authorities were corrupt, a trend that has persisted.

Putin is an evil corrupt dictator getting rich by robbing his country.

He is sending thousands to their death in his quest for power.

Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has severely damaged Russia by reversing three decades of economic gains, resulting in heavy military casualties, and rendering the country an international pariah. The economy is pivoting to an unsustainable war footing, marked by high inflation, a brain drain, and critical shortages as resources are diverted to the military.
