How Netanyahu Turned Israel Into a Regional Power
The Times of Israel ^ | Mar 8, 2026

When Benjamin Netanyahu began his political career, Israel lived under the shadow of regional isolation and constant threat from hostile states and armed organizations surrounding it. Today, after years of his leadership, the country has become one of the most powerful military and technological forces in the region, and the Middle East’s geopolitical landscape looks profoundly different from what it was only a decade ago.

In July 1976, Israeli commandos stormed Entebbe airport in Uganda to rescue more than one hundred hostages held by Palestinian and German terrorists. The operation became one of the most celebrated military missions in modern history. But for Benjamin Netanyahu, it carried a different meaning: the raid claimed the life of his older brother, Yoni Netanyahu, the commander of the elite unit that led the assault.

For Netanyahu, the loss was not only personal. It became a defining lesson about the nature of Israel’s security. The Jewish state, he concluded, could never rely solely on diplomacy, international guarantees, or the restraint of its enemies. Survival would depend on strength, intelligence, and the willingness to strike first when necessary.

Half a century later, that lesson appears to be written into the Middle East’s geopolitical map. After decades of Netanyahu’s leadership, Israel has transformed from a country surrounded by hostile forces into one of the dominant military and technological powers of the region.

I think Netanyahu is another one that God decided Israel needed at the helm.

It’s hard to believe anyone would take that guy seriously.

I mean, the guy started his career as Israel’s prime minister during Bill Clinton’s FIRST term in office.

Can you imagine an American political figure from 1996 running for President today? The decrepit old jackass would be laughed out of politics after dropping out of the primary with zero delegates.

Silliness. He doesn’t even believe in God or Jesus. He’s secular, from a secular family and does not follow any of the Jewish religious laws.

No wonder people are giddy about him. They think God placed him there? So he’s the most chosen one, of all the chosen people? Gotcha... lol

PRAGUE (AP) — Nearly 30 years ago, Donald Trump was confident he would win the U.S. presidential election — as an independent in 1996, according to recently uncovered files from Czechoslovakia’s Communist-era secret police.

Your post reminds me of an article I read years ago from a conservative author who had an interesting confrontation with Netanyahu in New York City.

The guy was attending a Broadway show, and before the opening curtain Netanyahu showed up with an entourage. They ordered the theater management to vacate several full rows in the center orchestra section to accommodate them all — for “security reasons.”

Everyone in those seats agreed to move elsewhere, except the guy who wrote the article. Netanyahu and his security leader were livid, but the theater management had no way to force the guy to move. The Israeli entourage ended up taking several rows of seats in the back of the theater — which was easy to do because they ended up relocating THOSE patrons to better seats. LOL.

What I remember most about the article was that the author made a point of reporting that “Netanyahu was there with a very attractive woman who isn’t his wife.” LMAO.

He is successful as a leader of a country. Just like Modi or Sanae Takaichi - they don’t believe in Jesus either, but they are reasonably good leaders of their countries

lonestar, he is ethnically Jewish yes, but as to his religious beliefs we don’t know exactly.

He is outwardly and by his personal history a secular Jew - kind of like the various “Christians in name” only - or at least WAS before he got into politics.

Now he outwardly attends Jewish religious stuff but we have no clue at all to his actual beliefs - but that’s no different than any Christian or Hindu or Shinto - or in the case of MBS etc, Muslim rulers.

But it’s a useful line of attack when you mainly attack Jews.
