Russia Is Sharing Satellite Imagery and Drone Technology With Iran
Wall Street Journal ^ | March 17, 2026 | Thomas Grove

Posted on 03/18/2026 5:19:32 AM PDT by fours

Russia has been expanding its intelligence sharing and military cooperation with Iran, providing satellite imagery and improved drone technology to aid Tehran’s targeting of U.S. forces in the region, people familiar with the matter said.

Russia is trying to keep its closest Middle Eastern partner in the fight against U.S. and Israeli military might and prolong a war that is benefiting Russia militarily and economically.

The technology provided includes components of modified Shahed drones, which are meant to improve communication, navigation and targeting, the people said. Russia has also been drawing on its experience using drones in Ukraine, offering tactical guidance on how many drones should be used in operations and what altitudes they should strike from, said the people, who included a senior European intelligence officer.

Russia has been providing Iran with the locations of U.S. military forces in the Middle East as well as those of its regional allies, WSJ has reported. That cooperation has deepened in early days of the war, with Russia recently providing satellite imagery directly to Iran, said two of the people, the officer and a Middle Eastern diplomat.

The assistance is similar to intelligence the U.S. and European allies have given to Ukraine in recent years, analysts say. Moscow’s aid is believed to have helped Iran with recent strikes on U.S. radar systems in the region, said the people. Those strikes have included an early warning radar for a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or Thaad, system in Jordan, as well as other targets in Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.

...

Iran has had greater success targeting U.S. and Gulf state military assets in this war than it did during last year’s 12-day war. The country’s strikes—using drones to overwhelm radar before a missile strike—look very similar to Russia’s tactics in Ukraine, analysts said.

Looking forward to new cheaper mass produced versions of the stealth drones like the Wraith or the Great White Bat.

We’ve been doing the same thing to Ukraine for the past four years. See the hypocrisy?

Well, It only makes sense.
Russia is going to try and turn Iran into Americas Ukraine. They’re going to do with Iran the way we are doing to Ukraine. Feels like the entrance to a ‘deal’ to me.

America is motivated by the threat of iranian mullahocrazy exporting their terrorism around the world. (or if you’re tucker carlson or any of his whack jobs, it’s the jewish cabal of long nose greedy jews rubbing their hands together with long blood dripping fangs.) Russia is motivated by a need for warm water ports so that they can do business during the winter freeze.

Interesting to see what happens here.

Didn’t Russia buy the drones from Iran before all of this?

How are they CURRENTLY sharing it, with whom (that matters), and how can Iran act with that information to their benefit?

“Russia Is Sharing Satellite Imagery and Drone Technology With Iran”

The REAL QUESTION should be whether Russia would be doing the above if we were NOT in Ukraine killing Russians, but instead were on good terms with Russia. After all, we did have a choice - follow the Democrats and Europeans into their psychosis regarding Russia, or act in the US interest which is containing China, a FAR BIGGER long-term threat than Russia.

We’ll never know...

The solution: the USA goes neutral on Ukraine (only humanitarian aid) and ends all sanctions; and Russia terminates its relationships with scoundrel regimes like Iran and N. Korea.

Hypocrisy?

It seems that you support conquering peaceful European nations while opposing opposition to the Iranian reign of terror on the world and them seeking nukes to improve on their Iranian Islam/Russia/North Korea/Red China goals.

This is a shock?

I am no fan of Russia or Iran. But we’ve been handing over targeting information in Ukraine for a few years now. Why would anyone be surprised over a “Turnabout is fair play” situation?

Hypocrisy?

More like know your enemy.

Russia is not our friend; they are an enemy and should be treated as such.

The sooner Trump learns this, the better off we, the USA, will be.

The US brought the General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper (sometimes called Predator B) online in 2007 so it’s silly not to think that other nations would catch up and exploit the drone as a tool for warfare, the goal now should be (what it should have been) a way to disrupt the flight and navigation systems of enemy drones or a way to intercept them from a reasonable distance, or track their signals back to their operators and engage the human element.

I see the tremendous differences. Ukraine gave up it's nukes and long range missiles showing it was not a threat to Russia, while Iran is developing the bomb and long range missiles all the while threatening the US.
