The Bank of Canada’s Economy: Things Get Worse, Then You Die

Canadian Economic Downturn Structural, Not Cyclical

The BoC delivered an unusually political message this week: The country’s downturn isn’t cyclical, but structural. Cyclical issues are related to the business cycle, rising and falling with the natural booms and busts we’ve all come to love and hate. Structural changes are permanent and require drastic changes for the economy to operate. The Governor attributes this shift to three forces: slowing population growth, a breakdown in US trade relations, and artificial intelligence.

“The impact of these forces on the Canadian economy will not be a temporary cyclical fluctuation. These are deep structural changes…” BoC Governor Macklem.

Canada’s Era of Population-Driven Growth Is Over

The country’s era of population-driven economic growth is over, and they aren’t just referencing recent immigration blunders. The Governor explains the labour force grew an average of 1.5% annually for the past 20 years, but the BoC sees it “hardly growing at all over the next few years.”

BoC Declares US Relations Over, Pitches “Painful” Restructuring

Compounding those pressures is the end of Canada’s economy as we know it. “Canada is at a crossroads. The era of rules-based open trade with the United States is over,” warns the Governor. He doesn’t just call for an end to the economic model the country has been using since 1989, but bluntly states it’s over. No room for diplomacy, nor is this an issue that will pass with a new administration. A dramatic restructuring of supply chains and sourcing to non-US countries is the only option.

Stupid Canadian Liberals.

The bigger the state, the smaller the citizen.

A message often said, as for example by Prager. "The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen." Prager U, 2014.

The Canadian state is grown to big, to invasive and too powerful over its own citizenry, all the while less powerful as a nation among nations. Individuals produce; government confiscates. The Canadian Liberals are "big state." And the citizen will submit.....

Who would have guessed that importing large numbers of unskilled immigrants (overwhelmingly from a single country) to work at fast food joints isn’t gonna help the economy? Canada’s GDP might have risen, but its GDP per capita (a far more important figure) actually fell. Thanks, Liberal Party of Canada.

“population-driven economic growth”

Real estate prices in Toronto and Vancouver are very high.

Countries like Canada and Australia should not let second-rate immigrants settle in prime economic areas.

My suggestion: Everything will improve if you all start sourcing your golf vacations to non-US countries.

I have family (by marriage) in Canada. They’ve been struggling financially since I’ve known them, starting back in the mid 1990’s.

Both the Matriarch and Patriarch of that branch of the family died on Canadian ‘Free Healthcare’ operating tables - for minor surgeries.

Yeah. No, Thanks!

“The era of rules-based open trade with the United States is over”

I advocated for Congress to set up reality-adjusted tariff rates from time to time for about a year.

Adjusting tariff rates to reality at least annually by rule means the rules don’t have to get changed as often, only recalculation would be done.

“slowing population growth,”

We can fix that, send them some 15 million illegals from here as they already know how to live off of other’s money. They will need no training, it would be our gift to Canuckistan.

“I have family (by marriage) in Canada. They’ve been struggling financially since I’ve known them, starting back in the mid 1990’s.”

I have suggested transferring much of upstate New York to Canada.

That would provide Canadians with lots of fairly cheap real estate and make what is now an economic rust bucket a prosperous area.

“some 15 million illegals from here as they already know how to live off of other’s money.”

We need to change the welfare rules so an anchor baby can’t support a family on federal funds.

Welfare should be partially replaced by need-based income tax rebates so welfare can’t be used as a long-term support system.

They kept telling my brother in Canada that he had indigestion, I do not know how many trips to the doctors. He told them it was not indigestion.
This was 15 years ago.
He had a heart attack and died. Sister said when they talked to the Pakistani Dr., he cried and was so sorry.

I hear stories about their health care all the time, terrible and their medicine is not all covered by their ins.

Wanted to charge my sister 2800.00 for some pills and 800.00 for some other and she says they have the best health care coverage with their Chrysler plan.
