Senate GOP eyes blame game as Trump-backed SAVE Act heads for defeat
FoxNews ^ | 03/12/2026

Senate Republicans know that Trump-backed voter ID legislation is doomed to fail and are trying to find a way to pin the blame on Senate Democrats.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., plans to bring the bill to the floor next week, but Republicans won’t take the route of launching into a talking filibuster despite pressure from President Donald Trump and the GOP base to do so.

"We don't have the votes either to proceed, get on a talking filibuster, nor to sustain one if we got on it," Thune said. "But that is just a function of math, and there isn’t anything I can do about that. I mean, I understand the president's got a passion to see this issue addressed, as we all do."

That’s exactly right.

The GOP does not want what the people want. Secure borders, secure elections.

Remember to sign on in support of John Cornyn too!!! /sarc

Its almost as if they are purposefully nuking the coming election so that they face a defeat. And it seems like Trump would sign onto this if he endorsed Cornyn.

Well, the silver lining in this is that lousy RINO, Cornhole, will be going on to defeat as well.

I cannot see the whole article. Why are we not requiring a standing filibuster? No bills are going to get passed anyway and even if they did Trump wouldn’t sign them. What better does the Senate have to do?

“God help us because our own are against us.”

It’s so discouraging. Sometimes I try to tell those around me why conservatism/Republicans are the way to go. Time and again Republicans prove that the only benefit they offer is that they are not Democrats.

It’s a club, and Trump is and can never be a member. They hate him more than any person that walks this earth. Do not think for one second that there is any loyalty to our country, constitution, processes, or people. Their hate of Trump is by the use of him as a proxy, which is of the people.

We don’t even get this.

No mass deportations.
No full release of the Epstein and JFK files.
No prosecutions for spying on Trump.
No prosecutions for creating the COVID virus.
No prosecutions for forcing vaccines on us.
Now, no fair elections.

But at least Israel got the war they have been asking for.

I’m glad that somebody came away with a win from Trump.

Well it only has 85% approval across the board so you can’t really expect congress to vote for it

Ever since the Tea Party, I tell people conservatives are the way to go.(Which I did before then)

But Republicans? Those fools need to be defeated immediately. Just conservatives only is what we need.

I keep hoping beyond hope that Trump does not foolishly endorse John Cornyn as he did with Lindsey Graham. Right now, we have a really good chance to have a solid conservative replace a terrible republican. We do not get this chance very often and I’m worried Trump is going to have a massive wipeout here.

Yes, conservatives and republicans are not the same thing.

They’ve always been against us. It’s just now, they aren’t even trying to hide it.

Prove to me that voting works. Clearly it does not.

You're right, what we need is a handful of lobbyists to throw some cash at them.

From what I’ve read, most of the blame is on Thune.

Imo Trump will not endorse Cornyn unless he gets the save act. The rinos want Cornyn, and Trump wants the vote secured.

The GOP will wait for the Dems to take the majority to kill the filibuster

And they will. The first time they have the power to move legislation THEY want through, GOP efforts to forestall it with filibuster will be squashed like a bug.

But tell that to Thune and his buddies.

If it’s defeated, it’s because the GOP-e wants it defeated. They are not on our side and never have been. Their purpose is to run interference for the Left and they are damn good at it.

If nothing else, Mitch and Thune need to be gone after this. If we can get rid of Cornball too, then so much the better.

Instead of a show vote on this legislation, Thune needs to call for a vote on the talking filibuster and make republicans vote against it.
