Minnesota DHS worker who was spared prosecution receives 1-day job suspension for keying Teslas

A state employee who admitted vandalizing several Teslas in Minneapolis over a brief span last year received a one-day unpaid suspension from his job for his actions after he was spared prosecution in favor of a diversion program.

“Your behavior, as substantiated by the investigation, constitutes a violation of DHS’ and [the Minnesota Management and Budget’s] policies,” read the disciplinary letter sent to Adams on Jan. 21, one day before he served his suspension.

The letter to Adams noted that state policy required he be “held to the highest standard of honesty, integrity, and ethical trust.”

Adams explained that he was upset after seeing Musk give what appeared to be a Nazi salute during a public appearance earlier last year.

“He stated that he damaged the Tesla vehicles in hopes that the owners of the vehicles would disassociate themselves with Elon Musk and Tesla,” the investigation’s report read.

Adams, who has been with the DHS for more than seven years, added that sleep deprivation drove him to damage some of the vehicles.

While Adams acknowledged damaging the vehicles, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office chose not to file criminal charges against Adams and instead had him enter an adult diversion program meant for first-time, low-level offenders.

Spokesman Daniel Borgertpoepping explained at the time that the decision allowed his office to secure restitution for Adams’ victims while still holding him accountable.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara voiced frustration with the decision not to charge Adams, saying, “The Minneapolis Police Department did its job. ... Our investigators are always frustrated when the cases they poured their hearts into are declined. In my experience, the victims in these cases often feel the same.”

Does this guy work for the Federal Department of Homeland Security (DHS)? It says he is
a Minnesota state employee? If he is REAL DHS, then he must be terminated immediately.

And his actions will now not go into the bucket of crime statistics...so legally, it never happened. Yay! Crime is down! Especially crimes by leftist nutballs!

How’s that? I don’t think he should have gotten a slap on the wrist, but per the article the DA sought restitution. So what damages would you be suing for? Employers are responsible for the acts of their employees done I. The “course and scope” of their employment. So unless keying cars was part of his job duties, what would be the basis for a suit against the city?

Anarcho-tyranny — you can be a criminal as much as you like, as long as you are victimizing the right people. But don’t try to be a good guy and help stop any criminals. The government will stomp on you real good for doing that stuff.

“I’d be suing the perp and the city!!”

The city got themselves a “get out of jail free card” by punishing him. In reality, they had nothing to do with the criminality of the act. He was not working for them on the clock when he performed the scratching. They were covering their azz to stay out of court.

The owners of the Teslas should memorize his face. Do whatever they need to do. ..

I wonder what it means about ‘his office’ securing restitution...

Is the perp not going to have to pay for the 20K worth of damage?

[The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) ensures basic health care coverage for low-income Minnesotans through Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP). This section outlines eligibility and coverage for these programs.]

I think that tells us all we need to know.

Can the victim who was keyed do the same to the perp’s car and get the same “punishment”?

I know what I’d do. And it would be decidedly disproportionate, with me floating in a sea of alibis.

The use of the branding iron would be exquisite.
