There was no compromise possible with the Shiite fanatics, especially Ali Khamenei. They had to be believed, as they preached "Death to America" for almost 50 years since they took over Iran.
Imagine this regime after a successful nuclear bomb test in their uninhabited desert area or underground. They would actually use the nukes on Israel and the U.S. or others, likely smuggled in a shipping container or launched from a ship offshore.

What I find odd is that Iran "does not" have a deliverable nuclear bomb today. The physics behind a uranium 235 atomic bomb are relative simple and can be found in your local library as it is common knowledge. Iran knows how to enrich uranium to a usable percentage for an atomic bomb. To think they have not done this is foolish.
Iran has close relationship with North Korea that has developed thermonuclear weapons. Actually they have cooperated in this. It would be idiocy to think they did not have access to this with one possible exception. North Koreas thermonuclear bombs have a return address due to isotopes from their former tests.

But what is our ultimate goal of this action. What do we want to achieve before we stop?

Looks more to me like Donald Trump clearing the field for Israel to create it’s “Greater Israel”. Kind of ironic he decides to give justification for his war *after* committing the US to a regional war. It’s traditional to get the public behind you, at least to some degree, before launching hostilities. You see Trump and Netanyahu all of the sudden because they are taking aback at so little support. I guess they though Christian America would automatically rally to the cause.

Israel has never tested an atomic bomb nor thermonuclear bomb which is odd. Their weapons work. Their weapons are our designs.
They are thought to have tested theirs with the assistance of South Africa prior to the communist ANC takeover there.
North Korea has repeatedly threatened to attack US bases. China, through its fentanyl cartel, has killed over 70,000 Americans a year.
Trump went in this knowing these things were unpopular. Hell, he won by running against their unpopularity THREE times. And obviously Bibi doesn’t really care if this cripples Trump politically or burns down the GOP in the process. He got what he wanted. If the GOP never wins a national election again, it’s not his problem.

Just because America does something that helps Israel does not mean America is like a dog on their leash. Ending the threat of Iran is in the interest of both America and Israel.
