Ukraine's government says Russia indicated during recent talks in Geneva that it could accept U.S.-backed security guarantees as part of a potential post-war settlement, though major differences remain unresolved.
On Saturday, Kyrylo Budanov, chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said in a televised interview that Russian representatives signaled openness to security guarantees proposed by the United States, reported Reuters.
"At the last talks, the Russian side said for example that they would accept the security guarantees offered to Ukraine by the United States," Budanov said.

I bet Russia had a change of heart after watching what happened to Iran.
Russia must be pretty embarrassed that the world now knows that they’re Iran’s client state instead of the other way around.
Song going through Russian leaders’ minds.
Sometimes I feel
like a motherless Iranian child.
A long way from home.
The security guarantees proposed by the US side involved prohibition of EU membership and prohibition of NATO membership in recent reports.
I suspect we don’t have details on this. It may include prohibition of any European troops as well.
The Z pervert will hold out for lots of cash!
Gee I wonder what caused a bit of mental clarity on Russia’s part all the sudden?
The world may never know (if they read the LSM)
Yeah, because we’re going to attack Russia. Any other bright idea
Maybe they saw us shoot down three F-15Es with some girl pilots. That would terrify anybody lol!
“””Yeah, because we’re going to attack Russia. Any other bright idea”””
Who said anything about attacking Russia?
I bet Russia had a change of heart after watching what happened to Iran.
I don’t think it’s as simple as that. I think Russia just realized that they can provide zero security for it’s client states because it’s blown the military wad on Ukraine for 4 years with almost nothing to show for it. Now, with China looking North to ‘old border disputes’ maybe they are having a ‘rethink’ of what’s best for Russia.
Ending the war with a peace deal that opens up the west to market, and gives Russia some security, and a chance at new allies, would be the ideal for Russia.

Putin’s own assessment of his military:
1) bogged down in Ukraine for 4 years
2) vaunted anti-aircraft systems suck ass
3) no more drone tech from Iran
4) Navy sucks ass
5) no confidence in hi-tech hypersonic weapons development or anything else they mak
Russia is in a bad position in Ukraine right now, because the Iranian regime was a major supplier of drones and missiles.
On the other hand, Russia should benefit from the jump in oil prices. Previously, they had to sell their oil at a huge discount on account of the sanctions.
War will be over shortly.
Our weapons would help but Ukraine can survive without them.
Ukraine must be ticked off that we are shooting off all our Patriots at Iran.
Reuters says:
"Russia said at recent talks in Geneva it would accept the U.S. proposal for Ukraine's post-war security guarantees, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's chief of staff said."Kyiv says Russia accepted US plan for Ukraine security guarantees Reuters, 28 February 2026.
When Russia actually says something, it's likely "Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's chief of staff? won't be the spokesman.
Don't know how this all will turn out, but "Gairola said that Reuter's reported than Budanov said that Russia said" is an interesting thread. Time will tell.

“A grieving Russian President Vladimir Putin mourned the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei claiming Sunday it was “a cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law.”
Putin sent his public condolences to his Iranian counterpart, promising Khamenei will be remembered “as an outstanding statesman” who helped elevate Russian-Iranian relations, AP reports.”
