The Maine State House has removed a portrait of former U.S. Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell following renewed scrutiny over his reported ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Maine House Republicans posted video of the portrait being taken down on social media Friday afternoon. The move comes after the release of roughly 3 million additional documents related to Epstein, in which Mitchell’s name reportedly appears more than 300 times.
Mitchell was a prominent American politician and diplomat. He also served as Majority Leader in the U.S. Senate from 1989 to 1995. For years, he has denied any knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activity and has never been charged with or linked to child sex abuse.
Several institutions and landmarks across Maine have been named after Mitchell in honor of his life's work. The release of the files has prompted calls to reconsider the titles of nearly all of them.

Go figure that!
Read this and thought it said George Michael and wondered how he was involved in that!
And it’s not from Babylon?
They should leave it up and include the excerpts from the Epstein files. Show the world the real George Mitchell. No erasing history.
I like how the author identifies the picture taker downers as Republicans without pointing out that George was a demonicRAT.
I remember Mitchell. He always came across like he was the Sunday school deacon. Mr. Upstanding.
Seriously, Bill Clinton reportedly was banging Mitchell’s daughter right after he left office.
It was in all the news for quite a while.
Have a dart board pic of Slick *Bubba and Cankles. Does it need to come down?
And OJ seemed like a nice guy. We in the general public have no way of knowing whether a celebrity is good or bad or somewhere in between.
Note the word “Democrat” is suspiciously absent from mention in this article.
You never hear any specifics, just accusations of association. Like what in the 300 emails was mentioned?
Mondale’s nutty kid
"Yes, Sen Mitchell is going with me to visit my old friend, Jeffrey."
That’s how we know..lol
I remember George Mitchell lecturing Ollie North on Iran-Contra. A total low class, no class cheat.
You are correct. My bad.
I like how the author identifies the picture taker downers as Republicans without pointing out that George was a demonicRAT.
The article says the Republicans took pictures of the action. They in no way were responsible for taking it as the dems run the state house.
American Taliban.
Not getting this post to me? Is this a mistake?
The worst sociopaths and psychopaths are quite likeable. They are charmers. I remember reading a psychologist saying he never met a sociopath he didn’t like. That’s how they reel you in.
I don’t really have a solution. We should all try to be likeable.
