For months, critics on the left have accused Jeff Bezos of nudging the Washington Post in a more conservative direction — citing the paper’s decision not to endorse Kamala Harris and Bezos’ remarks about emphasizing free-market principles on the opinion page.
If so, someone forgot to tell the advice desk.
This week, the Post made the editorial decision to republish a 2024 “Ask Sahaj” column in which a young South Asian woman wrote that she feels hurt not being seen as beautiful by white people, particularly white men.
The letter-writer, who notes she wears a hijab, describes feeling invisible in social and romantic settings.
The columnist’s diagnosis veers left from the jump. The response opens [emphasis added throughout]:
“You need to accept that the messaging about beauty standards you’ve internalized is rooted in white supremacy and colonialism.”
It continues:
“These beauty standards … weren’t created for you; in fact, they are founded on a belief that you, me and other people of color are inferior because of our race.”
“Decolonizing your beauty standards can come down to divesting your self-worth from ‘beauty’ altogether.”

The letter writer wears a hijab, but wonders why white guys might be reluctant to approach her?

This article is so damn stupid, opinion pieces have always allowed other views, fox news website for example has always posted opinion articles that were far left
This is stupid.
Bollywood has the same issues; white/lighter skinned actresses get preferential treatment. Racism is big in Bollywood - at least, these kinds of undertones anyways.
You would think an author likely from India or that area of the world would know that. Likely she does. But she has an axe to grind.
But this is not an opinion piece by an outside contributor. The author is the Washington Post’s in-house advice columnist.
She's not brown. Just ugly.
This is brown. This is beautiful.
I think she is attractive.
“The letter-writer, who notes she wears a hijab, describes feeling invisible in social and romantic settings.”
Um that’s the very purpose of a hijab.
It isn’t just the hijab, but that is a major factor. I will not engage with someone in that garb, period. Even then, that 2x4 sized chip on her shoulder would drive off any who weren’t immediately put off by the head rag.
Your advice is misdirected. You have attributed the reaction
to your reader's discomfort and confusion to the racist dictums
of white supremacist attitudes and historic colonial supression of minorities. You are wrong on both counts. 1. There is no racial divide. South Asians and Westerners share the same racial characteristics inasmuch as they are both Caucasian. 2. The reader wears the hijab and complains about feeling as if she were invisible. That is exactly the point of wearing garments such as the hijab. It is meant to cover the attributes often associated with womanly beauty including her hair. If the reader wishes greater acceptance of her natural beauty in Western social situations, she might try exposing some of those attributes. 3. Perhaps the reader should consider that she does not possess the attributes of beauty normally accepted by Western standards and get on with her life. It's not society's fault that she is unattractive. Thank you.
Fat brown round faced foreigner complains guys like Blondes
Absurd
Maybe we should tell her to dye her hair. Debby Harry did...
Like a white guy would want to get involved with a muslim and her family. Even Ray Charles would see problems and sing Hit the Road Jack.
To clarify, the woman in the posted photo is the advice columnist. The column contains the letter from the woman complaining that white men don’t look at her, but there’s no photo of her and she doesn’t describe her looks.
A lot of Woke women have really taken this advice to heart. A whole lot of them.
“ Feminism was created to give unattractive women access to the mainstream.” Rush Limbaugh.
IF I WENT TO THE MET FOR AN EVENT DRESSED IN BLACK LEATHER WITH CHAINS EVERYWHERE-—DO I THINK I WOULD DRAW THE ATTENTION OF A SUITOR???
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
In-house, out-house, what's the big difference?
It looks like Bezos needs to do further decolonization efforts at the Compost—the leftist infestation is still stinking up the place.
Seriously lol. Wtf is wrong with these people.
