“We will ensure justice for your magnificent daughter, Iryna,” President Trump said during his 108-minute State of the Union address on Tuesday night.
Among those in the audience was the mother of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee who was fatally stabbed on Charlotte’s Light Rail last August.
Iryna’s mother, Anna Zarutska, was introduced as a woman who has “been through hell.”
Her daughter’s killing, captured on camera in Charlotte, sparked intense criticism over why the suspect, Decarlos Brown Jr., was on the street despite 14 prior criminal arrests. Trump, however, inaccurately claimed Brown was an illegal immigrant when he mentioned his criminal history.
The Trump administration has pointed to the killing to argue that local leaders, judges and policies in Democratic-led cities are failing to protect their residents from violent crime.
Anna Zarutska did not speak, but sat next to Erika Kirk, the widow of political-activist Charlie Kirk.
This week marks four years since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. While the U.S.-brokered peace negotiations stalled, on Tuesday night, Trump firmly sided with Zarutska. “She had escaped a brutal war only to be slain by a hardened criminal, set free to kill in America, who came in through open borders. Mrs. Zarutska, tonight, I promise you we will ensure justice for your magnificent daughter, Iryna.”
North Carolina Republican Senator Tedd Budd responded directly to the mention of Iryna Zarutska.

And Trump succeeded to shaming at least a few Democrats into standing up, but as if they were extremely uneasy about the gesture.
For those Democratique representatives and senators who did not attend, because they thought “Trump is not their president”, maybe, the United States is not their country, either.

They seem to be “transitioning” from being Democrats into being DEMONRATS!
Last weekend, I noticed a great big, beautiful mural of Iryna down the street from me. That’s the kind of graffiti I can get behind.

To be fair, unless they are ignoring the law, this is what the people voted for. Years ago Californians were outraged that a career criminal killed a young girl, so we got the “Three Strikes Law.” The media immediately began the sympathy campaign, poor DaQuan was going to prison for 25 years because he stole a pizza, or whatever. After years of the sob stories, Californians reversed course and voted to reduce the penatlies for many of the crimes these criminals could get locked up for, and the cops could not take them off the street. Then we had the scenes of people walking into stores and walking out without paying, and the same people who voted for that were outraged. People who don’t pay attention are easy targets for the propagandists, and they are also the victims of their ignorance.
I noticed that too. Other times when you thought ANYBODY would stand, but no ... Disgraceful!
Yep. And Trump called them out on it, as he should have. There is something very very wrong with anyone who did not stand; her grieving parents were there.

How is this pertinent?
A woman was murdered by a racist multiple offender that the DA decided not to prosecute. By rights, he should have been incarcerated at the time, but he was on that train, ready to kill a white woman. Neither Ukraine nor Russia have anything to do with this.
All of the Democrats were wearing Ukraine pins. Yet they ignore this mother.

Yes indeed. There aren’t many crimes that haunt me but this one does because of the video I suppose. And yes there are much worse ones that occur with torture etc but to the best of my ability I avoid any videos of them because I need my sleep.
