Trump raising global tariffs to 15% after Supreme Court defeat
The New York Post ^ | 02/21/2026 | Geoff Earle

President Trump said Saturday he’s going to bump his newly imposed global tariff to 15%, in the wake of the Supreme Court decision blocking his sweeping import taxes on international trading partners.

The increase was “based on a thorough, detailed, and complete review of the ridiculous, poorly written, and extraordinarily anti-American decision on Tariffs issued yesterday, after MANY months of contemplation, by the United States Supreme Court,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social.

“During the next short number of months, the Trump Administration will determine and issue the new and legally permissible Tariffs, which will continue our extraordinarily successful process of Making America Great Again – GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!” he wrote.

Trump announced 10% global tariffs Friday after the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision that the president had exceeded his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977, which allows presidents to regulate commerce during national emergencies, to impose tariffs to address trade imbalances and halt fentanyl smuggling.

Trump had previously said he was “ashamed” of three conservative Supreme Court justices who ruled against him, and now plans to rely on a different legal provision known as Section 122, under the Trade Act of 1974.

*** It allows for tariffs up to 15 % for a maximum of 150 days to address “large and serious” trade deficits. ***

As expected, Trump acted quickly to reimpose tariffs. He has many arrows in the quiver.

Bets on how long it will take a district court judge to issue a universal injunction. Bonus points if you can correctly guess the “background” of the judge.

I wonder who compromised the SC. Looks like DT knows and is sticking it to them.

Yesterday 10%, today 15%.

Maybe back to 10% on Tuesday, up to 20% on Thursday?

Nobody compromised SCOTUS, they ruled correctly. So now Trump is further punishing hard working Americans with even higher taxes, at least for 150 days. What will happen after that? Will he come up with some other BS way to keep tariffs going? To keep robbing Americans of our income?

When did this site become such a haven of high tax apologists?

” So now Trump is further punishing hard working Americans with even higher taxes,”

You support foreigners getting jobs over Americans getting jobs. Obviously, you are a foreigner.

Ah the typical democrat straw man: if I don’t support sending more money to Washington then I must:

* Hate children
* Hate the poor
* Hate the sick
* Hate American Jobs

(choose one)

Because there can never be a solution that doesn’t involve more money for government, right?

I’m a true conservative American who served in the military, built my own business, and opposes socialism in all its forms. Imbecile? Because I don’t support high taxes?

You are a simpleton.

Tariffs protect American workers. They incentivize companies to make things here.

I don't believe any of that.

It’s all about the competition my FRiend.
It took many years of greedy
investments in foreign markets
to get the US where it is today.
Cheap Chinese junk. Steel, textiles,
autos, agriculture, and all of
the US jobs that support these industries
disappeared.
I am willing to sacrifice some and support
Trump to see many of those jobs
and industries return to the good ‘ol
US of A.

And yes, there might be short-term pain, but in the long-run it will yield results.

But herein lies the big problem with Americans in general, they want instant gratification, and if they don’t get it, they vote people out.

You are all for sending more money overseas, so you can stop trying to lie and claim tariffs offend you because it is money going to DC.

Unlike liberals, we Americans are not that stupid.

Trump abides by every judicial ruling that comes down against him, except the one that actually provides financial relief to Americans.

This one he defies.

Enjoy the midterms, folks!

It’s too late not to involve government. 40 Trillion Dollars too late. The tariffs are important to bring industry back to America and to pay some of the debt. Liberals were happy to export industry to keep the environment clean in their back yard while sending dirty jobs and industries to other countries to pollute over there. They spent the trillions of borrowed dollars to support a welfare state to keep the unemployed people from revolting. They figure on stretching it out as long as they can and will use inflation to help postpone the inevitable. When the money finally does run out and the government collapses due to the debt being too large to service, they will have imported enough people to keep themselves in servants and protection services while we the American citizens are living in tents on the streets.

“Targeted” tariffs protect U.S. workers (steel, IC chips, aluminum, lumber, autos, etc., etc.) “blanket” tariffs on every country on the globe is not too logical (petty). Tariff Bermuda? Turks & Caicos? Really?! Tariff bananas, cocoa, coffee? Climate says the U.S. will never be large producers of those. PDJT already acknowledged these facts:
