US reportedly prepares for extended military operations against Iran

The United States has directed its military forces in the Middle East to prepare for potentially extended operations against Iran, positioning them for action should President Donald Trump order strikes on the Islamic Republic.

It remains unclear whether Trump will pursue a diplomatic solution or move toward military action against the Iranian regime. Speaking to U.S. forces at a base in North Carolina on Friday, Trump said it has "been difficult to make a deal."

"Sometimes you have to have fear. That's the only thing that really will get the situation taken care of," Trump told the U.S. troops.

White House Spokesperson Anna Kelly addressed the issue of a potentially sustained U.S. military operation against Iran, saying, "President Trump has all options on the table with regard to Iran."

"He listens to a variety of perspectives on any given issue, but makes the final decision based on what is best for our country and national security," she said.

The U.S. military is reportedly getting ready for military action against Iran that could be far more extensive than previously assessed, however, Trump recently told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he still prefers a negotiated solution with the ayatollah regime.

Does “extended military operations” have a technical meaning, or are they talking about another forever war?

The locals won’t take down the government so we’ll have to do it? I guess these mullahs are just popular enough to not pull a Shah on them.

Or they aren't, but have the military power over no-gun civilians.

You could say that, but look at what happened in Venezuela.

For weeks we said something was going to happen, and then January 3rd came.

There has to be an absolute defeat. They are going to have to go through those tunnels to root out the rats.

No. The Mullahs have absolutely no qualms about killing 90 million people to maintain power. That is why the Iranians cannot defeat them, because they are unarmed.

The Shah was defeated because he wasn’t willing to kill millions to maintain power.

The love boat soon will be making another run
the love boat promises something for everyone
set a course for adventure...

Oh, wait. Wrong song.

Great quote:
“Captain Bainbridge remarked, his resolve firm, “I hope I shall never again be sent to Algiers with tribute, unless I am authorized to deliver it from the mouth of our cannon.”
― Brian Kilmeade, Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates: The Forgotten War That Changed American History.

“The Barbary states were already at war with America, and they seemed to understand only one kind of diplomacy—the kind that was accompanied by a cannon.”
― Brian Kilmeade, Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates: The Forgotten War That Changed American History.

When Jefferson was inaugurated as President in 1800, Tripoli demanded an immediate tribute of $250,000, a huge amount at that time. Jefferson, who had previously stated “Millions For Defense, Not One Cent For Tribute” refused and sent a squadron of frigates to protect our interests in the Mediterranean. He also informed Congress, although they never voted on a formal declaration of war.
This action was memorialized in the Marine Hymn — “to the shores of Tripoli.” Their daring actions gave the American forces a significant advantage...

I disagree. A show of force MIGHT get Iran to negotiate in good faith but doubtful. As Churchill said, “Jaw Jaw Jaw is better than War War War.” If Jaw fails then “CryHavoc and let slip the Dogs of War.”

Mark Antony speaks the famous line, “Cry ‘Havoc!’ and let slip the dogs of war,” in Act 3, Scene 1 of William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar. In this scene, Antony is alone with Caesar’s body and vows to incite a violent revolt against the conspirators.

The fact that this was “leaked” is probably to set the stage for negotiations. This is where Obama failed. He’d draw “lines in the sand” threatening this or that and nobody paid attention. He was totally ineffective. To be effective, he would have needed to move assets. The more assets, the more money spent in advance, the more likely he would have won the negotiation. Trump understands. If he looks like he’s half a mind to just nuke the place the Iranians will be terrified enough to give him what he wants.

Frankly, as much as I’d hate another war, the Iranian regime and their paid proxies are probably behind ninety percent of the world’s terror. We should seize any opportunity to get rid of the mullahs. Those opportunities have been few and far between. If we had managed an attack during the initial riots the regime might have folded. But we didn’t have sufficient assets in the region, and such an attack will have consequences we and our allies were not ready for.

So now we have a very loud buildup going on. If we’re only going for the nuclear program, we’ll need a truly massive show of force. The mullahs don’t know what we are going for and that ambiguity allows Trump the most maneuvering room.

They know exactly where he is.

They knew where Maduro is and look at how easily they got him.

Same thing in Iran.

Exactly!

This is what happens when the civilian population doesn’t have a Second Amendment.

Exactly! If anyone is ever wondering why the second amendment is important, point to Iran.

No, no one is going to take on an Abraham’s tank with an AR15. But when the maniacs are gunning down people in the streets, a little return fire will temper their bloodlust.

You are correct. I lived in Iran as a kid in the 60s when the Shah was head of state. He was actually a benevolent dictator. He did care about his country and his people. He was a friend of the United States and oddly Israel. The New York Times and the Washington Post and the television media painted him as the devil incarnate and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini as the savior of Iran.

Jimmy Carter set the middle East on Fire when he actively assisted in the deposing of the Shah and did not strike Iran when they seized our embassy and people. Hillary and Obama just poured gasoline on the fire Jimmy Carter started.
