After 2020 data debacle, the next census cannot wait four years to be completed
Washington Examiner ^ | February 11, 2026 8:00 am | Joe Concha

Outside of the handling of COVID-19 and the limp cover-up of former President Joe Biden‘s cognitive decline, “errors” in the 2020 census are the biggest scandal of the 21st century.

“Errors” appear in scare quotes here for good reason. That census was so botched that it can rightly be questioned as intentional. Why? Because every “error” goes in the direction of favoring the Democratic Party and serving as a detriment to Republicans.

Overall, according to the Census Bureau’s own audit, almost every state that was “miscounted” — again, scare quotes for emphasis — had a positive impact for Democrats. Blue states, including New York, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Delaware, and Hawaii, were overcounted, while red states, including Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas, were undercounted.

According to a 2030 appropriation forecast study conducted by Carnegie Mellon University, Florida and Texas, both solid red states, are gaining four House seats each, while deep-blue states, including California, New York, and Illinois, are losing a combined eight.

And it only gets worse for Democrats: Georgia, North Carolina, Utah, Arizona, and Idaho, all states won by Trump in 2020, would gain one seat, while swing states such as Wisconsin and Pennsylvania would lose one seat, along with the most liberal states in the country, Minnesota, Oregon, and Wisconsin, all losing one seat as well.

As for the Electoral College, Florida, Texas, Utah, Idaho, North Carolina, and Georgia, all Trump 2024 states, would gain a combined 11 electoral votes, while California, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Minnesota would lose 10 seats. Toss-ups Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, states won by Trump in 2016 and 2024 but lost in 2020, would also lose one electoral vote...

Before anyone gets unhinged, remember who was POTUS in the years leading up to and including the 2020 census.

Let’s also remember how many on his staff and departments that were actively working against him.

I’m really surprised Trump hasn’t forced a new Census based on real data of accepting non-citizens into the apportionment equation.

The next census absolutely *must* have one count of all residents and a separate count of USA citizens only. The second number is what will be used to apportion congress-critters.

There should be a very stiff fine for lying on the census about being a USA citizen when one is not - $10,000 or more.

Congress needs to pass law, signed by Trump specifying who and how the count is performed. No non-citizens. In fact only those who have residency should be the only ones that count.

The Swamp really did dump on us hard in 2020.

In so many ways.

First, Trump doesn’t have the legal authority to do such a thing.

Second, the matter of not counting anyone but citizens, as opposed to “persons” as written in the Constitution, has still not worked its way through the courts.

The Constitution itself already specifies when and how the census is to be completed each decade. Nothing Congress or Trump does will change that.

It will require a Constitutional amendment to cease counting “persons” and count only “citizens.”

You are correct, sir.
And that ain’t gonna happen.
Unless, possibly with a “much feared” Article V Convention of States.

The anti-Trump bureaucrats were injecting bad data from previous censuses into the data stream at the end to slow down the completion of the 2020 census.

You’re obviously not familiar with the structure of the Census Bureau.

When I say “Trump” I mean his leadership. That includes suing for a Census as the only reasonable relief because the existing Titles have been abused.

2) Texas
3) Florida

Agree that the Constitution states that a count of ‘persons’ is required.

However the Constitution does not explicitly nor implicitly prohibit a count of USA citizens taken by census. This second count should be done.

That is not what the constitution says.
