Defying doomcasters who predicted that AI plus tariffs mean disaster for American workers, the January employment news blew past expectations, with 130,000 new jobs.
Revised 2025 data show that the nation added only 81,000 jobs all last year, as the economy struggled to escape the Biden-era doldrums — so 2026’s solid start suggests President Donald Trump’s pro-growth policies are finally kicking in.
Plus, the net gains come despite a decline of 42,000 government jobs, including 34,000 from the federal workforce: A shrinking public sector and growing private sector is exactly the right path for America.
Yes, the nation needs a lot more: Manufacturing added just 5,000 jobs — positive progress, but not yet the broad “re-shoring” the prez envisions.
And the good jobs news will paradoxically work against Trump’s push for lower interest rates, as it’s fodder for the view that the economy doesn’t need another bump from the Federal Reserve.
But the economy still grew by nearly twice as many jobs as the experts had predicted; if this keeps up, voters’ current anxiety about employment should ease before the November midterms.

And, if you’re old enough, you can be a boomer doomer.
Clearly Trump boosted the economy to deflect from the Epstein thingy.
And, if you’re YOUNG enough, that would be rumor boomer zoomer gloomer doomer humor.
“despite a decline of 42,000 government jobs, including 34,000 from the federal workforce”
That’s 42,000 fewer people gumming up the works of private enterprise. There’s a huge multiplier at work here. It requires five or ten private sector workers to make up for the burden imposed by just one federal employee.
“Manufacturing added just 5,000 jobs — positive progress, but not yet the broad “re-shoring” the prez envisions.”
He’s got THREE MORE YEARS! Thank Goodness! MAGA! :)
If anyone wants to do a Deep Dive, all of the data is here in every sector of our economy. It’s lookin’ pretty good, no matter what BS the Enemy Media is trying to feed us!

“That’s 42,000 fewer people gumming up the works of private enterprise.”
As both a former State and Federal worker...I say AMEN TO THAT!
Too. Much. Dead. Wood!
You paying attention yet?
10 years ago, Geoffrey Hinton, who later shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2024 for his work on machine learning, predicted that AI would replace radiologists within five years. In the past 10 years the demand for radiologists has only increased despite more advanced technology becoming available.
He began working with Google in 2013 after they purchased DNNresearch Inc. for $44 million which he cofounded. In 2023 he parted ways with Google so he could “talk about the dangers of AI without considering how this impacts Google.” He began making dire predictions including that 2026 would be the year that millions of people would lose their jobs because of AI. He is an expert far more qualified than me to make these types of prognostications, but one has to wonder if he spends a lot of time actually using current chatbots and tools, because none of his apocalyptic predictions seem to be matching reality.
Why more jobs are bad! /MSM
Manufacturing takes time to build factories. The benefits of tariffs will show up 2.5 years after higher tariffs went into effect. Manufacturing jobs in United States did not vanish suddenly. It took China 2 decades to paralyze US manufacturing. The real benefit of manufacturing is it is #1 wealth creator in a country. China went from a ordinary economy in 1985 to juggernaut military power due to focus on manufacturing.
