Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg just purchased a mansion located in South Florida’s most exclusive neighborhood, signaling that the multi-billionaire may be permanently moving out of California as the state weighs implementing a one-time 5% “billionaire tax.”
Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan purchased an estate located in Indian Creek, on an island off of Miami. Indian Creek is home to about 41 homes owned by the top elite such as Jeff Bezos, Tom Brady, Carl Icahn, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.
The two acre property located along Biscayne Bay, which includes several private properties, is estimated to have sold for between $150 million and $200 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.
While Zuckerberg already possesses a large real estate portfolio with homes located in Palo Alto, Lake Tahoe, and Kauai, the Hawaiian island; sources indicate that the Indian Creek will be more than just another vacation home.
One of Zuckerberg's new neighbors, Irma Braman, the wife of auto dealer Norman Braman, told the Journal that Zuckerberg and his family planned to be moved in by April.
Zuckerberg’s apparent exodus from California to Miami comes just months after Google co-founder Larry Page purchased approximately $188 million in properties in South Florida.
And two years ago, Bezos moved to Indian Creek from Seattle, dubbed “Billionaire Bunker,” a move which saved the Amazon founder hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes.
While the California initiative to make billionaires pay a one-time 5% tax on any net worth exceeding $1 billion has yet to collect enough signatures to appear on the November ballot; real estate companies in Florida say the pressure is making Californians consider flocking.
"There's a few other very big founders and also tech giants and also venture capitalist firms, the heads of which I've also moved here," luxury real estate broker Julian Johnston of The Corcoran Group told Fox News Business.
"It was always a layover, one night, an event, but Miami's changed a lot in the last 10 years. It's culturally more interesting They said they were quite happy to move here and then see what happens in the next few years."
"One client said, ‘You know, this could be like a $5 billion tax for me,’" he recalled. "So they’re moving because of that."

He should have bought Mar-A-Lago. It is much bigger and a judge appraised it at only 18 million.
My guess is that California will claim he owes the tax if he still has property there, regardless of residency.
Or they will attempt to say he owes it because he “Used to live there.”
Question, who’s he gonna sell to if everyone is moving out?
Not fun for the people of the state they move to and begin to ruin
I suspect anyone remaining for the “one time” tax will get two-timed when it’s made an annual event, adjusted upward each time for inflation of course.
Not fun for the people receiving them. Just take a look at the sewer that is Austin.
Oh, without a doubt. The language ballot initiative specifically applies to residents as of Jan. 1, 2026. If Zuck is just moving now, and the initiative passes, they will certainly try to collect from him. That’s why the Google guys moved in December.
Indian creek? shouldn’t they have to change the name to not. offend? or did they pay enough for the homes that it’s ok?
I thought he had a ranch on the island of Kauai.
Well, he can probably afford the property tax and property insurance.
Yep. And even if it doesn’t pass they will try again.
Indian Creek is home to about 41 homes
...that somehow sprung up from nowhere and now calls this place “home”.
I certainly wouldn’t want to live next to this creep.

Something tells me a buyer with CCP connections will show up.
We don’t want the jerk!

That is the experience of GA. Democrats fled IL, MI, NY, CT for GA and turned it from Red to Purple. Big mistake of the Republicans: They did not educate newbies on the realities of economics 101 in Dem states vs GA. The Republicans in GA are too busy fighting among themselves.

They don’t want to pay taxes either.
Stolen land?
