WASHINGTON — President Trump announced Thursday that a massive prayer event will be held on the National Mall this coming May — declaring it is time “to rededicate America as one nation under God,” as the nation celebrates its 250th birthday this year.

Trump revealed the event during remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton, where he also doubled down on his commitment to religious liberty in the US.

Trump did not specify why May 17 was selected, however, shortly before the Declaration of Independence, the colonial Congress had declared May 17, 1776, a national day of fasting and prayer.

May 17 also comes a few days after multiple Christian denominations celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ.

Trump also revealed that the Department of Education will be taking steps to protect prayer in public schools.

Orthodox Ascension 2026 is May 21.

At least Trump’s prayer event is not in the middle of Great Lent, so Orthodox Christians can joyfully participate!

Very pleased....Talking to a friend the other day....saying that people don't go to church like they did because our world has changed. Stores were closed on Sundays...It was a family day.

Further...told her that people still had their faith...but many keep it closer to the vest....

I don't go to church anymore. I'm 84...old school...I want to hear the Latin Mass...and an organist...not some lay person and a guitarist.

Nope. Not so long as organizations like the NFL support a “Black national anthem”, while disrespecting the American national; anthem and flag by kneeling.

“May 17 also comes a few days after multiple Christian denominations celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ.”

May 17, 2026 Seventh Sunday of Easter, Ascension Sunday

AI Overview

Many Catholic dioceses, especially in the United States (like the West Coast, parts of the Northeast) and other countries (Australia, Canada), celebrate Ascension Sunday instead of Ascension Thursday, moving the feast to the Sunday before Pentecost for pastoral reasons, allowing more people to attend Mass, with approval from the Holy See.

Protestant denominations like the United Methodist Church also allow this transfer, while some regions and Orthodox Christians stick to the traditional Thursday date.

Who Celebrates on Sunday (Ascension Sunday)

Most U.S. Dioceses: The majority of U.S. Catholic dioceses, often those in western provinces and later spreading, moved the observance to the Seventh Sunday of Easter (the Sunday before Pentecost).

Other Countries: Australia, Canada, and parts of Europe have also transferred it to Sunday.

United Methodist Church: Allows the move to Sunday for pastoral reasons.

Archdiocese for the Military Services: Celebrates Ascension Sunday.

Who Celebrates on Thursday (Ascension Thursday)

Traditional Catholics: Some specific U.S. provinces (like Boston, New York, etc.) and traditionalists keep it on Thursday as a Holy Day of Obligation.

Eastern Catholics & Orthodox: Eastern Catholic and Orthodox churches usually observe it on the traditional Thursday (following the Julian calendar for Orthodox).

England & Wales (historically): Moved it to Sunday but reinstated it to Thursday in 2018.

Why the Change?

The shift to Sunday for many Catholics makes it a Holy Day of Obligation that more people can attend, as Thursday observances can be missed due to work or school.

***

AI Overview

The Seventh Sunday of Easter is commonly known as the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, commemorating Jesus’ bodily ascension into heaven, though some regions celebrate the Ascension on the traditional Thursday, making this Sunday a bridge between Ascension and Pentecost, focusing on Jesus’ final instructions to his disciples to spread the Gospel.

God is in charge.

And he is working his will through Trump as hard as that might be for the church ladies to accept.

If that’s how he’s thinking, maybe he should’ve skipped the assaholic and insulting political speech at the national prayer breakfast. Otherwise, people may decide this is just another political ploy.

Don’t bring your cell phone or credit cards. The FBI will undoubtedly geofence this event and hand over all data to the Dems. They’ll add this list to the J6 list. I guess the deep state will know if you’re watching it online at home. Do I sound paranoid?

The Knights of Columbus was the organization that got the ‘In God We Trust’.

The Knights of Columbus (KofC) were instrumental in promoting 1950s religious legislation, specifically advocating for adding “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954 and supporting the national motto “In God We Trust”—their efforts aimed to counter atheistic communism and reaffirm religious faith in America’s heritage.
