Korean War hero Royce Williams is being awarded the Medal of Honor, and his actions are something not even Hollywood could have dreamed up. Congressman Darrell Issa announced on Wednesday that President Donald Trump officially informed Williams of his MoH. The Medal of Honor is the nation's highest military award. It is only awarded for actions so heroic that oftentimes, the person earning it is killed. Williams is still with us in 2026, and his once-secret actions are now out in the public. Buckle up for one of the most insane war stories you'll ever hear.

“The Medal of Honor is the nation’s highest military award. It is only awarded for actions so heroic that oftentimes, the person earning it is killed.”
Actually, it takes a lot more than just that. The criteria and the hoops being jumped through are not that simple. And in this case, much was done.
The Medal is authorized for any military service member who “distinguishes himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty
While engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States;
While engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or
While serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.”
All recommendations require thorough reports on the act itself, the battlefield and its setting; at least two sworn eyewitness statements; and any other compelling evidence that can be gathered. Recommendation packets must be approved all the way up the military command structure, ending with the United States President as the Commander-in-Chief.
By Federal Statute, recommendations for the Medal must be submitted within 3 years of the valorous act and the Medal must be presented within 5 years. Any submissions outside of this timeline require an Act of Congress to waive the time limits. So this submission had, because of the time frame it happened, had to clear both houses of congress to be awarded. It was earned both times.

Story is hardly new or secret. Soviet pilots in the ROK have been out and about for decades.
Were they trying to hide the obscene $$$ spent on the military-industrial complex as warned by Ike? For a ‘threat’ that was a joke?
We saw the “Soviet” forces in the Ukraine. Still a joke owing to corruption....
Great big steel ones.
“”intrepidity””
It’s taken me nearly that long to learn how to pronounce that word....
The guy looks absolutely fantastic for age 100. I’m glad he’s still alive to see his heroism recognized.
All these years and not much talk says a lot about him. A true Patriot.
The Soviet military was not a joke in the early fifties, while Stalin was still alive, and the Soviets still had many veterans in their military.
I saw a YouTube video about this the other day. The MoH issue was still undecided. Glad that they pushed it through.
ROK, the Republic of Korea, is South Korea. The soviets were fighting for North Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea .
No underestimating your enemy is a base tenet of Sun Tzu.
“Where do we get such men?”
“Where do we get such men?”
Hard times make good men.
Great story. 😁👍 Amazing that he is still with us also.
I have a friend and neighbor Jack Wright who won the Silver Star thusly:
“ It came for action back in August of 1967 when Lt. Wright was the old man in his platoon at the age of 22.
The North Vietnamese ambushed a military convoy using the main road near Wright’s base.
His company commander went to help and was also ambushed so wright led 30 men to the rescue—against incredible odds, as many as 2000 enemy soldiers.
“We all were scared to death. The first thing you want to do is run like hell in the opposite direction,” Wright said. “But you have to overcome those fears and look death right in the eye and I can’t say it was easy. It was really hard.”
The battle lasted five and a half hours.
He got through, lost one man and had 17 wounded. But they rescued as many others as they could— and killed 300 enemy soldiers.”
More here:
BTW, he’s 100 years old. Should he survive until April 4th, just 2 months away, he will turn 101.
Jack died while walking his dogs in our neighborhood. But it’s a good neighborhood, and passers by applied CPR while the Medics rolled in hot.
Medics revived him, got him to the hospital, and after a few weeks he was home, weakened and never to be the same, but alive.
I asked Jack if he had any recollections of having died, you know, “near death experiences” or such. He said, “Nope. There was nothing.”
You're darn tootin'.
This guy is a rare breed. He is an old, bold pilot.
Unfortunately, at 100 years of age, he’s missed out on many of the benefits Medal of Honor recipients receive. Hopefully, he and his family will get a retroactive pension, which would probably be in excess of a million dollars. And when he passes, we can celebrate his life at Arlington National Cemetery.
