Around 55,000 Ukrainian troops have been killed since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday. The first day of US-brokered Ukraine-Russia talks in Abu Dhabi were "substantive and productive", top Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov said Wednesday, without providing details. Sounds low. The way this has been fought I can’t imagine total dead for both sides is 200k at the very least

Around 55,000 Ukrainian troops have been killed since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022,

Color me skeptical with such a low number of dead being reported.
I would guess AT LEAST 100k.

Gotta keep NATO's hopes alive! /dry wit

Zelensky can't say that due to propaganda.

But most likely, at least 3x of what he has decided to "report" so far.

Maybe 5x.

Keep in mind that this is dead, not wounded, and that for most of the war the Ukrainians have been sitting in trenches while the Russians have been charging them over open fields. The idea that the Russian have been winning a war of attrition is complete nonsense.

Shouldn’t the title be, “Dead: Around 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed since start of war, Zelensky says”?

It’s very confusing and misleading, really.

I find the number believable. In ten years of VietNam we lost some 59,000 souls. In each case the majority of fighting was/has been small unit operations. With the exception of Putin cynically sacrificing his Wagner group mercenaries, the press talk about “meat grinders” and stacks of bodies and a thousand deaths a week are as convincing as reported “body counts” the media fed us during the VN war.

While the initial onslaught was bloody, most of the line of contact the last 3 years has been relatively stable, Russian gains coming on the back of intermittent probing and infiltration units, with serious offensive action by company and battalion sized units targeting urban areas and logistical hubs.

Yes, we know Ukraine is winning the war.
Strange so many Ukes have fled Ukraine in spite of winning the war. My tourist town has lots of Ukrainian women searching for hookups.

The depopulation of Ukraine is much more significant than that...

Yes, Ukraine is indeed winning the war. They are winning by not loosing. It is Russian that needs to force a Ukrainian collapse. As long as Ukraine stands they are winning. This is not like a football game where the winner is the one who advances the ball. After four years of fighting it is clear that Russian does not have the ability to force a Ukrainian collapse.

Russia has apparently lost hundreds of thousands, so this number is probably about right. All of these deaths are sadly unnecessary... And a direct result of Putin’s insanity.

It's closer one million, fifty-five thousands.

In 2025, Russia and Ukraine conducted 14 exchanges of soldiers’ bodies, with Ukraine repatriating 14,480 bodies from Russia and Russia receiving 391 bodies from Ukraine. That means for every dead Russian soldier there were 37 dead Ukrainians.

If only 55,000 died, how did Ukraine end up critical low on manpower given that it had an army of 600,000 at its peak.

What kind of imbecile would believe this?

Zelensky also stated that there was a large number of missing on top of the confirmed dead. This does not include wounded, either temporarily or permanently. Both sides are keeping their real casualties closely guarded.

No matter what the numbers are for both sides, this war has gone on longer than World War II has for Russia. Russia is still unable to to decisively win.

Casualties are being inflated in the Russia Ukraine War by both sides. Not one war video can show you the dead or wounded in a “meat wave attack.”

Ukraine is a country with infrastructure, that has been emptied of people because of warfare, hence empty buildings being hit by munitions.

The payouts to these Slav meatheads for reconstruction will dwarf the payouts for the war.

“Just wait & see.”

Melania Trump says she remains in contact with Putin team over Ukrainian children
US first lady Melania Trump said on Wednesday she remains in contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s team in an effort to secure the return of more Ukrainian children from Russia.

“I’m working on it, and we are in the process,” she told reporters at the White House. “I hope we have success very soon.”

She did not share details about talks between her representatives and Putin’s team.

An East Wing spokesman said the lines of communication had continued after Melania Trump wrote a letter to Putin – hand-delivered by her husband, President Donald Trump, last August – about abducted Ukrainian children.

Fifteen children have been returned to Ukraine since the first lady started her advocacy, including seven children in December.…
