Bill passes 217-214 despite GOP opposition over election integrity provisions and DHS funding concerns
Twenty-one Republicans broke with President Donald Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Tuesday evening in an attempt to derail a $1.2 trillion spending bill to end a government shutdown, citing concerns that the legislation didn’t do enough to advance GOP priorities.
Among a range of reasons, lawmakers argued the bill needed to include provisions shoring up election integrity, come with full-year funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and eliminate Democrat-requested earmarks.
The lawmakers that voted against the measure included:

TRUMP UNDERCUTS GOP PUSH TO ATTACH SAVE ACT TO SHUTDOWN BILL AS CONSERVATIVES THREATEN MUTINY
Thomas Massie, R-Ky., condemned what he saw as a failure to shore up election integrity with the exclusion of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act — a bill requiring photo ID for registering voters looking to participate in federal elections.
"And most importantly… BLOCKED: the inclusion of the SAVE Act to protect our elections from illegal aliens — a top priority for conservatives," Massie said in a long list of reasons he posted to X on why he had voted against the package.
Massie alongside other Republicans like Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., had called for Republicans to tie the SAVE Act into the 2026 funding bill.

The Trump agenda is not to pass the SAVE act? Nice to know. The SAVE act is not some esoteric thing. It’s mainstream and Trump didn’t lift a finger for it.
These are representatives, not rubber stamps who simply follow his orders. Time he learns to listen.
DHS was already funded for the entire year by the Big Beautiful Bill. These are people who wanted more for their Christmas tree. Supposed conservative stars some of them— don’t believe for one minute how this “bill” was contrived nor the way it is described, as it makes no sense at all.
There is already a killer bill for election reform, which they are slow walking it is said. It’s needed now to codify DJT’s Executive Order and to support the Atlanta seizures which will reveal Deep State involvement in the fraud of 2020 which gave us the criminal Joey Bags Biden.

Why? They are holding out for what was promised by Trump. Election integrity.
Right now the SAVE Act is THE means to de-gut the Democrat’s continual abuse of loose voting standards (and disregard for enacted law) for the sake of retaining power when the majority of legitimate voters disagree with their agenda.
If it’s not passed before the inevitable pendulum swing back to their dominance we’ll not see another chance to right the ship in our lifetimes...but may live to see the ship sink and mournfully look back on this lost chance to save it.

These are all scripted votes... Congress is incapable of doing what Americans vote for. It’s all about self enrichment for them.
Very little of what is seen publicly coming from Washington is what is actually happening. Washington is always looking out for Washington first and foremost.
Yes. At first glance, you would think these Congressmen are the problem, but they are not. More like the solution. They are conservatives holding out for something more conservative.
