Heavy rain in the spring of 1927 generated a flood in the lower Mississippi Valley, one of America's greatest natural disasters. The flood inspired Vernon Dalhart, one of America's most popular singers, to wax two songs about it. Dalhart sang about many of the natural and man-made disasters of the 1920s.
