US judge dismisses murder, weapons charges against alleged CEO killer Luigi Mangione

A New York federal judge on Friday dismissed murder and weapons charges against alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO killer Luigi Mangione, a major blow to prosecutors that means Mangione no longer faces a possible death penalty if convicted.

Mangione, 27, previously pleaded not guilty to murder, weapons and stalking charges for allegedly gunning down the CEO of UnitedHealthcare in Midtown Manhattan in 2024. Public officials condemned the shocking killing, but Mangione became a folk hero of sorts to some Americans who decry steep healthcare costs and insurance practices.

U.S. District Judge Margaret M. Garnett in Manhattan said she dismissed the murder and weapons charges because they were legally incompatible with the two counts of stalking Mangione faces.

He can probably move to Minneapolis and run a successful campaign for mayor there.

The courts are not the sole source of justice in this world.

I realize that I’m an imbecile when it comes to the law, but if “the murder and weapons charges...were legally incompatible with the two counts of stalking” why didn’t she drop the stalking charges instead?

Legal tip.
You can charge the guy with both stalking and murder. It’s only a matter of which charges are brought by the feds and which are perused by the state of NY.

What’s the judges logic - The victim ran into a bullet from a gun that wasn’t there?

This is judicial activism that requires a legal remedy. In what world can you be videotaped shooting a person in the back at point-blank-range and skate? The legal system in this country has serious cancer. This is an outrage.

“The courts are not the sole source of justice in this world.”

*********

That may be but every form of criminal leniency only serves to embolden other criminals to commit more crimes. In other words, there’s a ripple effect when the justice system fails to protect society.

So, in the left’s warped view, killing a person interfering with law enforcement is bad, but killing a CEO is good.
