Trump nominates Kevin Warsh for Federal Reserve chair to succeed Jerome Powell

President Donald Trump on Friday named Kevin Warsh to succeed Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve chair, ending a five-month odyssey that has seen unprecedented turmoil around the central bank.

The decision culminates a process that officially began last summer but started much earlier than that, with Trump launching a fusillade of criticism against the Powell-led Fed almost since Powell took the job in 2018.

“I have known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the GREAT Fed Chairmen, maybe the best,” said Trump in a Truth Social post announcing the selection.

The pick of Warsh, 55, likely wouldn’t ripple markets because of his past Fed experience and Wall Street’s view that he wouldn’t always do Trump’s bidding.

“He has the respect and credibility of the financial markets,” said David Bahnsen, chief investment officer of The Bahnsen Group, on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

“There was no person who was going to get this job who wasn’t going to be cutting rates in the short term. However, I believe longer term he will be a credible candidate,” added Bahnsen.

Son-in-law to Ron Lauder, the billionaire and head of the World Jewish Congress who was a member of the MEGA group and who bought water interests in Greenland on the cheap, then in 2018 first told Trump that we need to acquire Greenland.

Once would expect this fixation over who will be in charge of printing money to come from a soviet republic. It’s proof that long term, the Trump presidency won’t do much to stop the collapse of the country.

Trump is the best president at least since Reagan. But for some reason he seems entirely unconcerned with the federal deficit.

I get that Congress put the country in this place. But the buck stops with the veto pen in the Oval Office. I feel uncomfortable saying that. But it’s true.

Is “the jury still out” as to whether or not Trump can fire Powell?

You can’t grasp the fact that President Trump imposed the largest tax increase in modern American history. He imposed tariffs.

President Trump has on several occasions expressed surprise at how much money is coming into the treasury from tariff collections by the customs people.

The tariff collections which by the way are not opposed by the Congress are in fact reducing if not totally eliminating the deficit. The US$ is being devalued as a result of the inflation and devaluation of the US$ is devaluation of the debt. Elon Musk headed up DOGE exercises that have found and eliminates very large misappropriation of funds. The Department of Education is gone. The Enviromental Protection Agency has been taken over and regulations costing $billions excised.

These are but a few of the MAGA actions that are operating on the debt

Everything that Trump is doing: cheaper energy, cutting regulations, cutting redundancy, trimming federal jobs, tariffs for the $ to reduce deficit and to get investment in the US, fighting to get the interest rates down, allowing the US$ to be at the low end of it’s strength curve, going after waste & fraud, removing illegal aliens and many more initiatives, all are measures to reduce the deficit & the National debt.
Not only is that obvious but Trump has been very clear about his focus.
Saving America is a task with many facets including returning industry, creating jobs, setting conditions to help Americans in many walks of life and diverse circumstances but at the bottom is a the need for a sound fiscal footing.

I’m not quite sure what you’re arguing. Are you saying that tariffs are good or bad?

Anyway, here’s one thing I’m sure of. Every year the federal deficit gets worse and worse. It really doesn’t matter who is president, or who controls Congress.

Nobody in power seems to care.
So this cannot end well.

May as well keep Powell for all the difference it will make. I have been a diehard MAGA guy for the last decade but in the last few days Trump has made me second guess my loyalty. What next? Is he going to endorse Harris as his successor?

Reducing interest rates is an effort to control the Federal deficit.
