Any organisation that kills thousands of its own people is working toward its own demise,’ says Kaja Kallas. The EU has listed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation, ending years of division over the issue in response to the regime’s brutal repression of protesters.
“Repression cannot go unanswered,” said Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, on Thursday. The paramilitary organisation has played a significant role in suppressing demonstrations in Iran. “Any regime that kills thousands of its own people is working toward its own demise,” she wrote on X. Hannah Neumann, chair of the European parliament’s delegation for relations with Iran, said the IRGC listing was a “long-overdue political signal that massive violence and transnational repression will no longer go unanswered”.

Well, they’re right.
About effing time.

What took them so long?
exempt the Ayatollah from their sanctions list“
Almost unbelievable. The EU a-holes never disappoint.
That and they want to make sneaky business deals and backstab us.
It only took about a half century, give or take a few years.
Glad to see they’re on the ball.
Would never have happened had not the French harbored Khomeini for 15 years.
Well, that surprises me.
For 47 years, the Europeans thought they were being clever.
When US stopped doing business with rulers of Iran, Boeing, Chevron, GE, and GM were replaced by Airbus, Total, Siemens and Peugeot.
The Europeans thought they would take advantage of the situation and make some money. The technology the Europeans (along with China and Russia) delivered to Iran enabled its rulers to pursue missile, drone, and nuclear technology.
The Ayatollah thanked the Europeans by giving Russia drones, helping it in its European land grab - a little like how they thanked Carter by taking US diplomats hostage. Never trust an Ayatollah.
Worse yet, the Ayatollah is spreading Islamicist assets all over Europe. They weren’t just buying buildings. They were also buying media, activists, lobbyists, academics and politicians.
They are doing the same in the US, but thanks to sanctions, their spread here has been slower.
It may be too late for Europe. But the US needs to make a stance, NOW.
PS: I am adding to this thread, people who have expressed an interest in Iran events. I am new here, so please let me know if that is not OK.
Thank you.
You have provided us an excellent post tat appears both knowledgable and factual.
Don’t sweat the yahoos. Most don’t have a clue and just ride a self-esteem enhancing topical bandwagon
Thx.
I truncated the story. The Koreans jumped in as well. Then there were secondary sanctions. There were billions (estimated: $20 billion) blocked in accounts held by third nations.
Then there was the Obama nuclear deal that released funds held by third nations.
But that was just a brief digest relating to the role of Europeans.
The reason for failure to go all the way is fear.
The Euros fear Islamic terror within their own cities and neighborhoods.
