Every year, the U.S. Census Bureau publishes the Annual Survey of State and Local Government Finances. This is the country’s only source for state and local spending data, allowing a detailed state-by-state comparison. The survey also divides spending data into categories, making it possible to analyze which public services states prioritize.
Overall, public welfare is the largest expenditure for most states. However, the level at which states prioritize assistance programs over other public services, such as roads and police, differs.
Minnesota, for instance, has a massive welfare system, dedicating a larger share of its revenue to assistance programs than most states. Additionally, Minnesota ranks among the top states for poverty-adjusted welfare spending, making it one of the most generous in the nation. In 2022, Minnesota spent approximately $42,000 (in 2023 $) per person on poverty, ranking second-highest in the entire country.
This trend continued in 2023, as newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau reveals.
A 2023 Update Including federal funds, in 2023, Minnesota spent nearly $46,000 on public welfare per person in poverty, ranking second-highest after Massachusetts. Meanwhile, both the median state and the national average were 55 percent of Minnesota’s level.

A lot of hard working Americans are going through financial hardship but yet we throw free taxpayer dollars at those that come here illegally for the welfare.
We should offer those Minnesotans protesting ICE the opportunity to sign up and pay for the illegal's welfare. It's not fair to hard working Americans that cannot afford to pick up the bill for illegals.
The Minnesota ICE protesters can sign up for programs like ...
- Adopt-A-Somali
- Adopt-An-Illegal
- Adopt-A-Haitian (for those in Springfield, OH)
Working class Americans shouldn't be paying for scammers here illegally. If liberals want to pay for them, they need to put their money where their mouth is. Don't ask me to pay.

And how much of that welfare money along with the graft went back to Somalia?

Get a job or go back to Somalia
Minnesota has become a total joke of a state. I’m sure the hard working Minnesotians are real happy with the jerkoffs that are running it.
The native people (Americans) all should rise up and help ICE to physically toss everyone of those bastards out of office and out of their state.
FedGov give about 80K per person on Welfare.
In Minnesota, that 46k plus 80K per person on Welfare, or about 126k total per year.
126K a year in Federal and State support for Welfare. Lets do some math. For a family of 2 thats 152K,of 4 it’s 354K per year, of 5 630K!!! Now, you still get breaks on taxes and Tax returns/incentives.
That’s quite a safety net that Obama set up!! Why would immigrants actually work!!!
End Welfare for Immigrants, set limits on time for American citizens, and prepare for people to register to get green cards to work jobs “That Americans won’t do”.
I wish those hard working Minnesotians would find a way to speak up
All we hear are the protests against ICE and those who speak out against the fraud done by somalis
“A lot of hard working Americans are going through financial hardship but yet we throw free taxpayer dollars at those that come here illegally for the welfare.”
That money is taken from us citizens who need it.. like me. I had to pay back emergency catastrophe funds plus $10,000 interest after being burned out by Antifa and losing everything of my 73 years.Biden attached my social security checks and destroyed my perfect credit. I had to relinquish credit cards that I had for decades.
Sounds low to me.

Agree 100%.
Liberals tell us things like immigrants process our chickens and keep the prices lower. If we look at how much taxpayers pay for those illegals, we’re paying a lot more for our chickens.
Overall, we’re making corporate food processors wealthier but Americans poorer. We also driving down the wages people could earn working those jobs.
And therein is the problem. The income safety net in the US is too wide. $46000/yr is a job that pay $23/hr, tax free, which many jobs don’t. I would change the eligibility requirements for welfare: If you can fog a mirror, you work. If you have pre-school children, you work in a state-licensed daycare center after taking a state-sponsored licensing course. Welfare also comes with random drug testing.
Unsustainable no country can survive with this level of corruption.
Sounds low to me.

What republicans need to do is make sure that working class blacks, Latinos, and other traditional democrat voting blocs know how much illegals are costing us.
They need to get ANGRY how much we’re spending on illegals while we have so many here doing without.
Agree. Welfare needs to come with a cost. That means you have to do something other than breed or just set on your behind all day.
The singular purpose of government programs has always been employing humans, not in delivering services. Government jobs exist mainly to give middle class lifestyles to otherwise unemployable adults.
How much did they spend on people who aren’t in poverty?
There is only ONE political party in America.
The organizing principle of both its wings is the uncontrollabe and UNSUSTAINABLE GROWTH of gubmint programs and ENTITLEMENTS with NO regard to their EFFICACY.
The sheeple are addicted to free lunch even though it costs them dearly.
Consuming more than you produce is UNSUSTAINABLE.
Eventually the output of the printing press becomes worthless.
Have you seen the pictures of post WWI Germany where there were wheel barrows full of worthless currency?
But remember, not all of that money goes to the recipient. Bureaucrats at every level, welfare caseworkers, offices and buildings and supplies too would factor in. The scam is MUCH bigger than just those receiving the welfare check. There’s folks skimming a bit (some legally and some illegally) at every level. I did that work 40 years ago coming out of college; it was the only job I could find at the time, working for the county Social Service Department. During my training, a co-worker (who had been warned to keep away from me, lest he “taint” me with his “bad” attitude) told me that welfare workers (like the two of us) were the worst people because we got paid to take people’s hard-earned money from them and give it to others who did not earn it. We were paid thieves, essentially. Sadly, he had a point.
This has been going on since the 60’s.
Ceder West building just east of the Vikings stadium has been a hole that taxpayers have been throwing at since probably 1965
