NUUK, Greenland — Native Greenlander Amarok Peterson was 27 years old when she learned the gut-wrenching truth about why she couldn’t have children — and that Denmark was to blame.
At 13, she became one of thousands of Greenlandic girls subjected to forced sterilization by Danish doctors who implanted an IUD in her womb without her knowledge.

While the government of Denmark officially apologized last year for decades of forced contraception of Indigenous women and girls, the horrific mistreatment has cast a long shadow on the island that has become the center of an international ownership fight.
This week, the Danes hosted European troops for military exercises on Greenland, asserting they are protecting the island from outside powers — particularly the United States. But for many Inuit, Denmark itself has long been the real threat.
“I will never have children,” Petersen said, with tears of anger and sorrow welling in her eyes. “That choice was taken from me.”.....
As the United States renews interest in Greenland — with President Trump recently expressing a desire to buy the island — Danish officials have repeatedly emphasized that “Greenland is not for sale.” But many Greenlanders argue that slogan masks a deeper truth: Denmark still governs Greenland, not Greenlanders themselves.
Greenlanders interviewed by The Post said they are not ready to swap Denmark for US ownership, as Trump has prioritized; they want independence after years of what some described as generations of trauma, displacement and economic exploitation that still shape daily life across the island.

Denmark should be held accountable.
Either they give up Greenland NOW,
or all those in power and/or involved
must be sterilized by the end of next month
and thrown out of their homes.

While the study was monstrous since the participants were not offered available treatments, even after penicillin became widely available the men were not purposefully infected for the study.
What was done to the Greenlanders was purposeful. I can’t imagine that any greenlander would not wish to sever their ties to Denmark. While their hearts might yearn to be independent they should realize they cannot protect themselves or their land from China/Russia. To live free they need the protection of the USA. They should construct the best deal they can, retaining internal freedoms and development of their resources with a share of the profits to be in their control and spent as they choose.

The forced sterilization stories in Greenland very real Danish thinking dominated by eugenics just like down in Alabama and in other places decades ago. I remember reading about this in Alberta up in Canada.
Nope. NATO is a joke and the US may pull out of NATO in any case. You may want to do w/o the Golden Dome but I do not. The inimical powers do not need to be vibrant economies to attack Greenland or use it as a base to launch missles at USA. A wounded animal or Country can do much damage.
How about an independent protectorate?

It was not sterilization. It was contraception. Cannot the IUDs be removed? At zero cost to the patient.
I can understand preventing passing on severe mental or physical abnormalities by segregating such persons.But what the Danes did was evil , just as similar campaigns in the U.S. and elsewhere.
Doctors are only humans not gods yet too many act as though they are above ordinary people.
