President Trump was briefed on new options for military strikes in Iran, a senior U.S. official confirmed Sunday.
Mr. Trump appeared to lay out his red line for action on Friday when he warned that if the Iranian government began "killing people like they have in the past, we would get involved."
"We'll be hitting them very hard where it hurts," he said at the White House. "And that doesn't mean boots on the ground, but it means hitting them very, very hard where it hurts."
On social media, Mr. Trump offered his support for the protesters, saying that "Iran is looking at FREEDOM, perhaps like never before. The USA stands ready to help!!!"
Mr. Trump's warnings come as nationwide unrest challenging Iran's theocracy crossed the two-week mark. At least 538 people have died in violence surrounding the demonstrations, U.S.-based activists said, with fears the death toll is far higher. More than 10,600 people have been arrested, the Human Rights Activists News Agency said.

Just send arms to the unarmed citizens and then stay away. They’ll handle it.
So you know better than Trump does about the situation on the ground in Iran?
I wouldn’t mind strikes against IRGC facilities...by the US or Israel. Make them think a bit about what they’re doing.
re: sending arms
Iran is a poster child for the 2nd amendment.
Radio reports have said. 500+ dissidents killed by Red Guard...a more recent report claims # is now 3000, but internet prevented that reporting of updated killings.
Here comes the Donald
I hate seeing us involved in a citizen’s uprising. Its a worthy goal but not our fight.
Regime change was far easier and efficent when the US had a competent , loyal CIA that followed orders.
President Trump’s mouth may have written a check that cannot be cashed. Either kill the mullahs or quit making promises.
The deposed Shah’s son (or grandson) is ready to reclaim, but is not preferred by many. He’s not been down with the freedom lovers, they say. Also, pretty much absent from the fight for 50 years.
There is some hesitancy for another King —even if its a benevolent King.
——that’s one Iranian’s POV.

7 months ago, a possible IDF insider “ricosuave666” predicted the exact day Israel would strike Iran and won $154K.
He is now back on Polymarket and started buying a massive position on another Israel strike on Iran by Jan 31.

“ricosuave” recently changed his name but he has made like 7-8 bets on things concerning Israel in the past and has won all of those bets. So yes he’s likely an IDF insider.
That said, Trump knows about the situation on the ground in Iran and we here on FR have no frikken idea. If he thinks some kind of strategic intervention will save a large number of lives, he will take action. He has shown over and over again that he knows what he's doing.
Need to first abolish the US BIA before addressing the backwardness and corruption of Iranian mullahs.
Absent boots on the ground, I don't see a downside.
Deposing the mullahs would pave the way for peace in the Middle East and beyond.
Yuuuuge.
Whatever gave you the idea that our government fears the people? Our government is a permanent bureaucracy that believes we, the people, are suckers.
Not our fight? Jimmy Carter helped the mullahs come to power. Biden could’ve helped in the last uprising & didn’t. And then gave the mullahs billions. I think we have been involved in a bad way, & now should be involved in helping these people throw off their tyrants.
Yes, pretty much, IMO.
If he thinks some kind of strategic intervention...
And anybody who has a different suggestion as to a way of helping is automatically shut out of opining?
He takes advice and suggestions. If nobody offers arming them as a solution he may not even be considering that possibility.
How has our government shown it fears us?
Then why are people in our government working so hard to disarm us?
Their fear is palpable. It's not my fault you don't recognize it.
A desperate need to provoke Iran to violence so the ‘victim card’ can be played.
If there is conflict with Israel Benjamin Netanyahu gets to stay out of the courtroom at his corruption trial.
Trump and Netanyahu are in there Trump wants Israel’s President to pardon Netanyahu to end the trial.
A strategy plays out here IMHO.
