President Trump’s call for Sen. Susan Collins (R) to be ousted in November tossed a monkey wrench into the high-stakes Maine Senate race, raising further questions about the GOP’s most vulnerable incumbent and whether she will be able to pull off another high-wire act in the blue-leaning state this year.
Frustrations at the White House boiled over on Thursday after Collins and four other Republicans sided with Democrats on a war powers resolution that would block further military action in Venezuela. While Republicans were miffed at the attack on the handful of members, it’s Collins they are most concerned with as she potentially holds the key to them retaining the majority next year.
“There were a lot of people shaking their heads and a lot of eyerolls,” one Senate Republican said of the reaction in the conference to the attack on Collins. “[You] probably ought not take on the chair of Appropriations, who’s a little bit pissed off about not getting regular order appropriations done. And now you’re s——g on her on this sort of stuff?”

Senate GOP leaders have long been protective of Collins, a Maine centrist who has frequently drawn Trump’s ire, given what both sides readily acknowledge: Collins is the lone Republican who can win the seat next year. Without her, the seat is likely lost for good, similar to what Democrats experienced in Montana and West Virginia in recent years.

The Hill has a liberal tilt, but is as connected as it gets.
This is Trump’s gift to Collins. He needs to go after her for her to eke out a win in this blue state. We can only hope this ploy works as it did in 2000, when Trump also went after her. She is well to the right of Manchin and far, far to the right of Fetterman, who is putting on a show of moderation as PA swings right.
“[You] probably ought not take on the chair of AppropriationsPresident and leader of your own party, who’s a little bit pissed off about not getting regular order appropriations done your vote on an important issue. And now you’re always s——g on herhim on this sort of stuff?”
Ha! You’re talking like a politician, not like a rabid conservative flag-waver.
In Maine, Collins is as conservative as you can get. There simply isn’t anyone waiting on the bench that could take her place.
I hate Collins but I despise Murkykowski even worse.
I wonder if she secretly made a deal with Trump?
His forceful rejection of Collins will actually help her get votes in the rabid left wing state of Maine. The state that has more lazy worthless scumbags on welfare than any other. The state with a worthless Kitsch horror writer and massive Trump derangement syndrome.
Reverse psychology?
Musk vs Trump show repeat.
Yikes but I think Trump is playing them.
I am not sure if THIS is true, but there is supposedly an alleged list of senators who have been getting $$$$ from Venezuela that was posted on x.
I am not naming names but the initials of one of the senators who was allegedly on that list is Susan Collins.
Trump calling for her to be thrown out IMPROVES HER CHANCES of re-election. And Trump knows it!
Pretty conclusive initials. Lol
The alternative is the whack with the tattoo. Can’t believe the voters there are that far out. I think she’s safe. We need 55 senate seats not 53.
He could also have the negative effect of keeping Republicans home on voting day. When the president calls For her removal, the beleaguered voters of the state of Maine only have one option.
Perhaps his calculus is that Collins, despite her flaws, is still better than a Graham Platner or Janet Mills.
collins is a traitor check her wealth and bank accounts
Collins is a very powerful Senator and she brings home the bacon.
“[You] probably ought not take on the chair of Appropriations, who’s a little bit pissed off about not getting regular order appropriations done. “
Her loss should not affect control of Senate.
For some reason the Senate Appropriations Committee selected Whacky Patty Murray as the vice chair. I’m sure Collins was instrumental to in that.
The number two Republican on the appropriations committee is John Barrasso. He has a near 100% conservative rating and supports Trump.
I see no downside in Collins being defeated, by either dem or republican.
EC
If true, it’s dumb of Trump. As much as I dislike Collins, she turned into a reliable vote for his appointments, and that’s why she’s in such trouble.
