Trump answers on whether he'd order a mission to capture Putin

President Donald Trump pushed back on suggestions from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the United States could capture Russian President Vladimir Putin after Zelensky pointed to Washington’s recent action against Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.

Trump waved off the idea of such an operation, while venting frustration over the grinding war and his failure so far to bring it to an end. Trump has repeatedly said on the campaign trail that he could end the war on his first day back in office, but despite meetings with both Zelenskyy and Putin, a resolution remains elusive.

"Well, I don't think it's going to be necessary," Trump said in response to a question from Fox News’ Peter Doocy during a meeting with US oil companies executives at the White House Friday.

"I've always had a great relationship with him. I'm very disappointed," Trump said of Putin. "I settled eight wars. I thought this would be in the middle of the pack, or maybe one of the easier ones."

No reason to.

And its rather idiotically specious of the press trying to equate a leader of the level of Maduro with Putin.

The media are antagonists...they want a few of Trump’s words to expound upon....

LOL. Yeah, invading a nuclear armed state to take out/capture its president/leader will work out so well. That would require a coup with the military working with us. I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

They are both third world best buddies, and both friends of Cuba and Hizbollah, both gaslighters, but it is true that Maduro doesn’t look like a trigger fish.

Lunacy. That would be instant, World War III. And it should be if we did it.

Maduro runs a narco-terrorist oil cartel with AK-47s. Putin runs a sophisticated technical nation, the largest on earth, with 6000 nukes pointed at us. FAFO could easily be turned on us forever

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the United States could capture Russian President Vladimir Putin...”

And capture Russian nuclear arsenal simultaneously? If Zelensky is even slightly serious, he is insane.

Capturing would be extremely difficult and fraught with risk. Assassination is preferable ala Osama bin Laden or Zawahiri. Assassination would quickly bring the war to an end and Trump knows it too, whatever he may say.

Putin is a war criminal and there’s an international arrest warrant outstanding for him the moment he leaves Russia. There’s nothing idiotic in asking Trump if he would enforce the warrant.

Hmmm, I didnt know he had a warrant out on him.

I thought he still traveled to other countries. Must be just friendly ones.

Wasn’t really what I was thinking of. Maduro ran a small country without nukes or much of a military. If we took Putin theres a real chance some nukes might be tossed around.

Sure.

I responded to “No reason to.”

You’ve described reasons not to.

Which I don’t necessarily disagree with.

I guess while there may be some similarities in common between the two, there are some stark differences, and because of those differences I can’t say it’s a simple apples to apples comparison.
