WASHINGTON, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Less than 24 hours after a federal immigration agent shot a 37-year-old mother in Minnesota, U.S. Vice President JD Vance stood up for the officer involved, blamed the woman who was killed, and said the incident should be a political test ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
At the White House on Thursday, Vance called the death a "tragedy" but spoke in defense of the agent, who was among 2,000 federal officers sent by the Trump administration to the Minneapolis area this week. The vice president also used social media to question Democratic politicians’ willingness to support law enforcement, a clear partisan shot from a man widely seen as a potential presidential contender in two years.
The shooting on Wednesday was recorded in several videos posted online, drawing heated and mixed commentary - often along partisan lines - on how a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent responded to the actions of the driver who was killed.
Early on, U.S. President Donald Trump also posted his support of the federal agent and blamed the driver, but in a sudden move, the White House announced that Vance on Thursday would field reporters' questions.
"Attack me, attack the president of the United States. Don't attack our law enforcement officers," Vance said.
The deceased was identified as Renee Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen.
After watching the videos, Vance solely blamed the driver.
"What I am certain of is that she violated the law," Vance said when asked by a reporter about doubts in his analysis, "What I'm certain of is that the officer had every reason to think...

Good. People have to stand up to the Left. Trump has been doing it. Good to see Vance do it too.
That is what leadership is all about. Rand Paul could learn something, but...he has his own personal self-aggrandizing agenda he is bent on pursuing.
He addressed each question with confidence, completeness, and strength.
Our Vice President is such a refreshing contrast to the previous embarrassment. Vance has breadth, depth, and speaking ability, and takes his responsibilities seriously.
We could not have a more capable candidate for POTUS in 28.

He had every right to defend himself against an attack on his life.

I’ll be voting for Vance in the both the Republican Primary & General Election in 2028.
I like political talent & he has that in spades.
This means Vance wins the ‘28 primary but probably loses the general. You have to win independent voters too and they are unlikely to accept that no real impartial investigation was done. The FBI has refused to share the files with the state suggesting the fix is in. It’s hard to imagine Walz isn’t going to pursue state charges. The libs out there will crucify him if he doesn’t pursue it. I can tell already this is going to be a mess. Why oh why did they have to politicize this?
I was never prouder of JD Vance than the tongue lashing he gave to the biased, wimpy press today.
Trump was so right to choose him. So many whined and thought it was a mistake. It was not.

JD is awesome. He was especially amazing back in November at a Turning Point event at a university (I forget which one). He stood at the podium for at least an hour and a half, answering a ton of questions from the young crowd - including very personal questions about his wife and family.

Democrats like to push the narrative that Republicans are racist...To get votes from "people of color"...They would not be able to use this white liberal woman's death to push that narrative...Who would buy the argument that she is a victim of a racist GOP administration...She is white...
Eventually Democrats would move on from this issue because they realize that constantly bring up this killing will not help them get more votes from people of color...
There’s a video that clearly shows her trying to run down the IC agent - he barely got far enough to the side to bounce off the fender instead of being taken under the bumper.
