STRAIGHT TO THE POINT: Independent Journalism Will Dominate 2026 (Includes details of how CBS blocked Hunter Biden laptop story)

Transcript Summary

Catherine Herridge, former CBS News senior investigative correspondent, delivers a personal message on her independent show "Straight to the Point."She explains her departure from CBS News in February 2024 during company-wide layoffs, stating it was unexpected and not related to her performance, which included Emmy-winning work and impactful reporting that expanded benefits for veterans.

Herridge details internal obstacles she faced while investigating the Hunter Biden laptop story, assigned by top executives including George Cheeks as a high-priority matter. Despite authenticating documents in 2020 and providing confirmed reporting to executives and anchors, the network did not pursue deeper investigation at the time, opting instead to downplay or delay coverage. A laptop story aired only after the 2022 midterms, and follow-up angles were rejected.

She expresses frustration over resistance within CBS News despite directives from higher leadership, missed opportunities like a potential live interview with Elon Musk (declined due to demands for taping, editing, and platform control), and the seizure of her reporting files upon termination—an uncommon practice that raised concerns about source confidentiality.

Herridge notes the timing of her layoff, one day after reporting on Special Counsel Robert Hur's critical report on President Biden. She also criticizes the lack of full transcript release for the 60 Minutes Kamala Harris interview, advocating for transparency based on precedents.

After leaving CBS, she transitioned to independent journalism on platforms like X, citing declining trust in traditional media (per Gallup poll), audience shifts to digital platforms, and greater freedom to pursue unfinished stories, investigations, whistleblowers, and newsmaker interviews.

She announces plans for 2026: more tough interviews, investigations holding institutions accountable (especially for service members), and whistleblower support. She thanks her small team and audience.

If that laptop story had gotten the airing it needed in 2020, we likely wouldn’t have had four years of hell under Biden. But would we have had the re-vitalized Trump Administration we have now?

God works in mysterious ways.

Podcasters and other independent journalists are those who will dominate. MSM is on the brink of extinction (thank God).

Even the bad stuff works eventually to God’s purposes. I prayed for Trump to win in 2020 but always like Jesus praying not mine but thy will be done. After the assassination near miss I took that as a sign Trump was destined to become President again and here we are now.

I’m seeing more and more stories on X from “independent journalists”. A lot of the stuff posted here is from X.

With X anyone can become a journalist - it’s “democrizing” journalism.

Of course you better have a good dose of skepticism to determine if what you’re reading is the whole truth or propaganda - from both sides.

In fact, because we like to reinforce our own belief system, you better be most skeptical of stuff that comes from our side.

Herridge is and always has been a consummate pro, very trustworthy—facts, not feelings or opinions. She has already been through hell and back when some IC entity spied on her computers, if I recall correctly. I wish her nothing but well. She is a journalist, not a talking head.
