San Francisco is ringing in the New Year by pushing for reparations for the city's black residents, to the tune of $5 million per person.
How will they pay for it? Well, the ordinance creates a fund of both private and public monies to cover the payments. Mayor Daniel Lurie signed the ordinance into law on December 23. The bill was unanimously passed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in early December.
Supervisor Shamann Walton, who authored the bill, said the ordinance will "provide restitution, compensation, and rehabilitation to individuals who are black and/or descendents of a chattel enslaved person and have experienced a proven harm in San Francisco."
Walton attempted this in 2023, but that was rejected by then-Mayor London Breed.
According to The New York Post, Lurie also admitted his city is "too broke" to pay it.
"We're not allocating money to this fund," Lurie said. "With a historic $1 billion deficit, we are going to spend our money making the city safer and cleaner."
Andrew Quinio, an attorney at the Pacific Legal Foundation, said the program is unconstitutional because of its racial preferences. "The ordinance has a very explicit racially discriminatory purpose," Quinio said.
On top of the $5 million payment, the ordinance includes debt forgiveness, 250 years of tax abatement, and income subsidies.
But even that's not enough. The San Francisco African-American Reparations Committee is demanding even more, on top of the cash payments.

Some of those demands include the committee being "independent of government of San Francisco," "exclusively Black credit scores," Black banks, a Black land and building acquisition trust, city-paid Black condo fees, and Black run community centers.
It also wants Blacks to be prioritized for homes that have been vacant more than three months, a repeal of CA Article 34 (voter approval for public housing), as well as funding for Black churches and the creation of "Black campuses," including business hubs and manufacturing.
The plan also alleges "genetic trauma" and "current policy of white supremacy" in San Francisco, as well as "stress and anxiety" caused by "financial insecurity."
The total plan includes more than 100 points.

Can we send the coords of that s_hole to the NORKS to use for testing?
Just substitute "yellow" (or "Asian" or "White" or "Jewish" or "Hispanic" or what-have-you) for "black," and ask yourself whether the SF libs would still endorse it.
If the answer that comes back is "no," then it's racist.
Also, "proven harm" is a pretty low bar to clear: I once got food poisoning at "Alito's" - is that a "proven harm?"

I have this sudden urge to don blackface and move to San Francisco.
There were no slaves in California, unless you count the Chinese.
So, now anyone who is black qualifies? Even if their folks moved here after slavery?

I’m rather surprised that “black-only” water fountains and “black-only” seats at the back of the buses aren’t included.
Is this or is this not a demand for segregation?
What is the textbook definition of “racism”?
How is the call for these “reparations” different from “systemic racism”?
How would acceding to these demands effect positive changes in race relations in the United States?
Try to answer that last question without sounding like a klansman leading a lynch-mob, if possible.
Chinese and Japanese (internment camps) have more claim to such a racist fund than any black folk.
They were actually deprived of major civil rights under color of law in San Francisco. I hope they make organized claims on that basis to highlight this offensive absurdity.
Also one supervisor, mine, amazingly did not vote - he is listed as “excused.” He is Chinese - Alan Wong.
If blacks are that sensitive and fragile, perhaps they should have their own country. A place just for them, so everything would be just like they want it to be. Maybe call it Liberia, or Wakanda, or sumn.
That is a good list of demands—that white people in San Francisco should make!

There must be universal genetic tests for all seeking reparations
Any person with white or Asian genes is not eligible for monetary reparations. Reparations in the form of genes have already been received
$5 million per person? What if you’re only half black? Does that get you $2.5 million?
I think this is about the craziest thing I ever heard of. It’s going to cause nothing but problems in my opinion.
This is The 1619 Project at work. If you’re black, you get everything. Universal Basic Income that’s race based.
