At the end of World War II, the U.S. and its allies made a compelling case that protecting and promoting human rights is not only the right thing to do; it lays the foundation for a stable international order. Although often honored in the breach, that proposition has stood the test of time.
It is now being eviscerated.
In a May 2025 speech in Riyadh, President Trump signaled a tectonic shift in the U.S. approach to international human rights. After lavishing praise on his host, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman — who U.S. intelligence believes ordered the murder and dismemberment of a Washington Post journalist — Trump declared that Saudi Arabia’s success came not from lectures by “Western interventionalists” on “how to live and how to govern your own affairs,” but from doing things “the Arabian way.” It is “God’s job to sit in judgment,” he added, and “my job, to defend America.”

Party irrelevant.
Nations are guided by national interests. These interests can be expressed in a monetary value.
It makes absolutely no difference if a Clinton, Obama, or Biden, are President they kept the oil flowing and didn't pull away from Saudi Arabia, they still thought trade with China was a great idea, and as 500,000 Rwandan's got hacked apart often my machete, they didn't move a finger.
In a democracy, politicians buy the voter. The big corporations and oligarchs buy the politicians. It's one big exercise in "following the money," with different groups being tied to different parties, but some groups tied to both.
Is a politician really going to risk a black eye if something goes wrong, the scrutiny of opposition politics or media from the other side of the spectrum, spend billions in taxpayer money, open pandora's box with a plethora of unknowns for altruistic reasons? Are these writers so naive and blinded by the love of any Democrat that they actually think Ukraine was for "sovereignty" and "democracy's" sake?
How "humanitarian" is a million dead and crippled in the Ukraine? Old people scrounging for food and without heat in the winter? But Sure, that's all Putin's fault in their mind, right? Glorious Biden can't have anything to do with that!
This is a stinky opinion piece where the writers have selective memory and cherry pick certain issues, certain speeches, and spin them a certain way, all to drive home some TDS opinion.
Over 100 million humans had the right to be slaughtered by communists.
Everyone has the right to own nothing, and be happy. Or else.
Venezuelans had the right to live in poverty under a dictatorship.
sheesh.
What about the human rights of the drugged out zombies living half-dead (or actively dying) on the streets of San Francisco? While they “spend” $30 billion a year on the “homeless?” They never talk about those problems they created.
There is no such thing as “human rights”.
Anyone arguing for “human rights” is actually arguing for Statism.
“ the U.S. and its allies made a compelling case that protecting and promoting human rights is not only the right thing to do…. Bla bla bla bla bla
Allies? Like who? Germany, they have no military. They’ve let their country be overrun without a care. What have they or any NATO country done for us?
Riyadh? What are these guys talking about?
The bush admin spent six months looking for a coalition to sanction Hussein.
Trump knows who he’s dealing with at least. Do these guys even know Trump speaks their language? As well as Melania’s and also Putin’s?
No.
The most important “right” to the Left is their own pocketbook enlargement, and control.
For ever Leftist i have ever met, it was obvious that their pronouns are:
ME
MYSELF
&
I
Also, It is “God’s job to sit in judgment,” he added, and “my job, to defend America.”
Belongs on his monuments.
Glenn Altschuler and David Wippman:
No doubt Glen and David were crying and holding each other when they wrote this dribble.
Glenn Altschuler and David Wippman are two self loathing Jews who have no problem when Bolsheviks kill millions, and ChiComs make thousands disappear.
You only hear about human rights when it’s in regard to protecting degenerate homosexuals and subversives.
To Altschuler and Wippman, I fart in your direction. /spit
It took two people to come up with this non argument.
That lie came early on so reason to read further
An opinion piece...
And you know what they say about opinions!
Agree people with TDS opinion never go back to normal if they ever were so.
They have the right to remain silent but not the ability.
Well stated! The crazy left don’t care about people. Any world-view, ideology, or philosophy that doesn’t respect the rights of individual human beings to self-determine and be free to make their own independent decisions and choices is not humanistic.
Of course this is an MSN viewpoint.
Expect nothing less from communists!
Poorly timed article. Trump just liberated 28 million people.
Altschuler revels in his story about the time in his Bat mitzvah youth when his mother thought she had enrolled him in Hebrew school, but mistakently enrolled hesh in the Workman’s Circle, "an organization committed to socialist doctrine and the Yiddish language". He tells that story with relish, as if Mary had left Jesus in the care of Karl freaking Marx.
Do you realize these two schlemiels once wrote an 'op-ed' criticizing President Trump for his "Executive Order Combating Anti-Semitism" by complaining that "it may well do more harm than good." Jews complaining about Trump elevating protection of Jews.
These two schnooks have nth level Derangement. What were you thinking even posting this? Let the garbage lay where it is, you don't have to pick it up and fling it in our face.
