Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was warned of rampant day care fraud last year but ‘turned a blind eye’: GOP state lawmaker

Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz “turned a blind eye” to repeated warnings that taxpayer-funded day care providers in the state may be engaging in fraud, according to a Republican state lawmaker.

State Rep. Kristin Robbins (R-Maple Grove), chairwoman of the Minnesota Fraud Committee and a GOP candidate for governor, told The Post she informed the Walz administration about her suspicions after running a hearing on day care fraud in February 2024 — but it fell on deaf ears.

“I gave the Department of Human Services a list of day care providers getting over $1 million in the previous year from the state who had numerous violations, and this day care was one of them on the list,” Robbins said outside the “Quality Learing [sic] Center” facility.

“They can’t say they didn’t know. We had a hearing on it. We gave them a list, and nothing has happened,” she claimed. “I find it shocking that this is still happening when we flagged something over and over again.”

The GOP lawmaker called on the governor to resign over the fraud scandals that have plagued Minnesota.

“He has turned a blind eye for so long that he cannot deny there were so many whistleblower reports, so many media reports,” Robbins fumed. “For them to say ‘We did not know’ is just not true.”

“He absolutely shouldn’t be re-elected,” she said of Walz. “If he resigned now, it would help, but Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan has been part of this all along, so I don’t know if getting him to step down and getting Flanagan in office actually solves the problem.

“What we need is a new governor who is going to clean house and have a no-fraud, no-excuses culture.”

He was "warned" of something he already knew about.

Stop thinking of him as a "retard". He might not be real sharp, but he knew how to get paid.

DOJ needs a warrant, and they need to work closely with the IRS and the banks. Get forensic on this guy’s money. All his finances. What comes in and what goes out. Spread the net and examine his whole family.

Tim Walz has already stated that he will be running for a 3rd term in 2026. He will need a lot of money to do this.

I suspect his war chest was funded with money from this fraud - for him to look the other way. I am convinced that he knew all about it.

He is being cornered and is deflecting (OF COURSE). Could you imagine if this were a Republican governor? The media would be all over it "like white on rice." Relentless, 24/7 media hounding him until he was either indicted or resigned.

Unfortunately, I think he'll be re-elected.

Just a hint, once you dig into this....most of the child-care centers are running on ghost-kids...non-existent...with the operation designed to handle money-laundering (say $500k a month). The fed-funds probably paid for employees/rent, but the money-laundering is the rest of the story.

Probably same way in Ohio and California.

Not that it makes a difference, but I’m getting the impression that the kids are quite real, it’s just that their parents sign them up, for a kickback, of course, and never send them. Why bother, since both parents are on the dole.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was warned of rampant day care fraud last year but ‘turned a blind eye’ and an open palm.

Fixed it.

Get forensic on this guy’s money

There's a reason that Timpon and his wife didn't need a retirement account...

It's both.

In the early days of the fraud it was parents getting kick backs.

They would show up to the centers, check their kids in, do the paperwork and have the kids sit around for a few minutes and then sneak them out the back door and take them home . This was 10-15 years ago

As the fraud progressed , the parents would just go in and sign a year or so worth of paper work in advance and never bother to even show up at the day care center at all. Their kick backs would go to direct deposit bank accounts.

After the kids aged out of daycare, the owners just started making up names and forging paper work for some kids so they would not have to pay kickbacks and pocketed 100% of the money. Bottom line is that a lot of Somalis were in on the schemes and got fraudulent kick backs and were or are active participants in the fraud which should be easy to document.

“...Tim Walz “turned a blind eye...”

Easy to explain. For the eye to be recognized by the brain, there has to be at least one of each. Walz is in short of supply of both.

chairwoman of the Minnesota Fraud Committee

A fraud committee in Mogadishu north is a real laugher.

Reminds me of Inspector Renault in Casablanca.

I keep asking the obvious question
If most of these Somalis are on welfare, no jobs..what did they need daycare for?
Of course it’s rampant fraud! I want to see the state officials who were signing off on the checks, licensing etc..go to jail. I bet they got their marching orders straight from Walz admin & Omar. This was a planned, organized fraud from the top, down.
I have a friend who lives outside St Paul, she said this has been going on for years and Feds should check the amount of remittances they send back home.

Sorry guys -— but when a liberal politician/business/gangster is “warned” of illegal activities in a local entity, it just points out another revenue source for them to blackmail and use.

Walz is on the take in Mn. that’s why he went along with the Somalis. No one can ignore billions being stolen and just turn their backs without a cut of the action. Walz is in on the action to his neck, need to include AG Ellison and the rest of the gov’t of Mn.
