Trump-backed conservative Nasry Asfura declared winner of Honduras presidential election

Nasry “Tito” Asfura, the conservative candidate in Honduras endorsed by President Trump, was declared the winner of the country’s presidential election on Wednesday after a weeks-long vote count.

Asfura, the 67-year-old former mayor of the Central American country’s capital city of Tegucigalpa, edged out Liberal Party candidate Salvador Nasralla in a 40.27% to 39.53% vote, according to electoral authorities.

Rixi Moncada of the left-wing incumbent LIBRE Party finished with only 19.19% of the vote.

“Honduras: I am prepared to govern,” Asfura wrote on X. “I will not fail you.”

Trump publicly backed Asfura last month ahead of the Nov. 30 election, warning that if he didn’t win, “the United States will not be throwing good money after bad, because a wrong Leader can only bring catastrophic results.”

“Tito will be a Great President, and the United States will work closely with him in order to ensure the success, with all of its potential, of Honduras!” the president wrote in Nov. 28 Truth Social post, adding, “VOTE FOR TITO ASFURA FOR PRESIDENT” and “MAKE HONDURAS GREAT AGAIN!”

On behalf of the United States, Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Asfura on his “clear electoral victory” and called on “all parties to respect the confirmed results.”

“We look forward to working with his incoming administration to advance our bilateral and regional security cooperation, end illegal immigration to the United States, and strengthen the economic ties between our two countries,” Rubio said in a statement.

“The United States urges all parties to respect the confirmed results so that Honduran authorities may swiftly ensure a peaceful transition of authority to President-Elect Nasry Asfura,” the top US diplomat added.

Great. Build a mega prison at Tri-point. It’s where 3 countries come together. Each country can take turns administering it by conveniently changing the borders from one year to the next. El Salvador showed how it’s done and the rest of Latin America is following as crime is a big deterrent to growth and stability. Once built corrupt leaders will get scared straight.

The area is mostly jungle with perhaps minimal access. The spot can be cleared quickly with a MOAB courtesy of the US. No need for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Gonna be awesome.

What a refreshing change it must be especially after that commie Obama backed Zalaya and pulled all his CIA and “community organizing” infrastructure to get that commie rat bastard in charge. Hopefully they find regional support and reform the nation like Bukele has right next door.

Central American countries have substantial Lebanese populations. Almost every country I know of has an “Arab club” in the country’s capital that consist of a golf course, bar and other amenities.

In Honduras, there common term is “Turco” to indicate a person of Arab decent.

This is not a new phenomenon; it’s been this way since I was 9 years old.

This article white-washes the reactions. There are substantial amounts of the population that are unhappy with the results. Here is a translation of the X account from Salvador Nasralla, the Liberal Party candidate who was defeated:
__________________________________
Between 1 and 15 June 2025, the then councilwoman president of @Cneonduras committed the crime of forgery of public documents, adding 8 new paragraphs to what had previously been approved by the @CneHonduras plenary (pages 39 and 40 attached to the approved and falsified ones) Thus, what was transmitted by TREP became a secret room (which was forbidden by the approved documents) in which the data of the actual minutes were changed, as you can see by going to the CNE page and in the two examples I gave today 24 December 2025.

There were 7 million lempiras that paid the then president according to the audio that was already verified by experts and must also ratify the @MP_Honduras Complicity is also punishable by law and lawyers know it. A test you will be able to verify when both counsellors who betrayed the Honduran people travel outside of Honduras in the coming hours.
They can always argue that they were not Independent but dependent on the organized crime capes of the official @PNH_and the ®Oficial_PLH who put them there in those posts...@realDonaldTrump
___________________________________

Yes, he blamed the corruption in the two major political parties (PHN (conservative) and PLH (moderate) and DJT. That’s a first. Social media is filled with accusations of a rigged election.

I had dinner last night with two CNE officials (who were also supporters of the current and outgoing socialist president), and they didn’t see a way the impasse would be resolved before 30 December. The crux of their argument was there was no way to reconcile the amount of votes that were coming from municipalities that had a know quantity of voters......so someone or some organization was feeding votes into the system. Interesting both said that the CNE knows that Salvador Nasralla won the election. The same CNE that announced the election for “Tito” Asfura of the National Party (conservative).

Well.....SURPRISE.

From wikipedia...

“Asfura was born into a Christian Palestinian family that immigrated to Central America during the Arab-Israeli conflict in the 1940s. He graduated from high school at the San Francisco Institute and studied Civil engineering at the National Autonomous University of Honduras, but quit his course to instead pursue a career in the construction industry. He first became involved in politics in entered into public life in the 1990s. “

Kind of interesting that president Bukele of El Salvador is also Palestinian.
