President Donald Trump announced Dec. 19 that his administration has sold more than $1.3 billion worth of “Trump Gold Cards,” a new immigration program offering expedited residency to high-skilled foreign talent, with proceeds going toward paying down the national debt.
In remarks to the press, Trump said that sales had exceeded $1.3 billion and described the Gold Card as a “green card on steroids.”
He said the option would allow companies to retain graduates from elite institutions, such as Harvard and Wharton, who might otherwise have to go back to their native countries upon graduation.
“They graduate from the top schools,” Trump said. “These people want to hire them. Now you’re able to buy a card and you’re able to keep people in the country.”
Trump highlighted how his immigration policy focuses on securing top talent and curbing illegal immigration.
“Under the Biden administration, 25 million people came in, and they came from prisons and mental institutions, and they were drug dealers and all sorts of people came in that shouldn’t be here. They came from the jails,” he said.
The Gold Card allows businesses to purchase the visas for foreign workers, enabling them to stay indefinitely with work rights. The visa costs $1 million in the form of a donation to the U.S. federal government.
The program, which has been challenged legally, began accepting applications on Dec. 10.
Trump launched the Gold Card in September with an executive order and instituted a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applicants. The H1B fee exempts current holders and renewals, according to the White House.
Trump first proposed the Gold Card visas in February, floating a $5 million price tag for residency and a path to citizenship.
“Wealthy people will be coming into our country,” he said when he proposed the program. The administration launched a dedicated website in June.
When launching the immigration Gold Card program, Trump said it would “reduce our taxes greatly and hopefully bring some great people into our country.”
Payments go straight to the U.S. Treasury. Howard Lutnick, secretary of commerce, was instrumental in launching the program, he said.
Twenty states, however, filed a lawsuit against the $100,000 H-1B fee, arguing it goes beyond executive authority.
Meanwhile, proponents say the program fixes longstanding issues with the H1-B lottery system.
Interest on the debt will eat it up. I’d offer one-way tickets to leftists on the condition they don’t return until Trump’s gone.
Financially astute idea to import rich people instead of welfare dependent relatives sponsored by green card visa holders. Those 2 Boston bombers sponsored 23 relatives for permanent visa immigration. I bet majority are sucking welfare. Many green card holders sponsor their senior parents who then collect supplemental social security and medicaid without having paid one red cent in taxes.
I’m buying them for all of the family.
That’s less then pennies on the national debt.
This needs to change. The H1B system is being terribly abused by current holders. Once Indian workers get a position of management they only hire other Indians AND they try to sabotage anybody else.
So just don’t try, eh?
The imported people aren’t rich, the big corporations who are sponsoring them are. These people will be indentured servants.
Our country is for sale and participating in slave trading.
It’s a genius move! Congress gets all upset about Trump wanting tariff refunds for ordinary Americans who’ve been ripped off from 5 yrs of biden’s inflation, instead of using it all for the deficit-the deficit they’ve studiously ignored for forever.
“Oh no, the deficit! How dare he spend a dollar of the tariff money he created for something besides the deficit!”
You don’t hate the uni-party enough
You are confusing temporary H1-B visa workers with immigrants with permanent visa called green card.
Gold card visa is simply a permanent green card visa, has nothing to do with any corporations.
$1.3 Billion is .003376% of the $38.5 trillion dollar national debt.
The daily interest alone is $2.74 billion
So yeah it’s a worthless attempt...
Eliminating all of the Federal welfare programs would be a good start and they total about $1.07 trillion a year so even that would take 38 years to pay it off.
Is that like 1 minute of interest? Better than nothing I guess.
The upfront cash helps, but also employees who pay taxes and buy products.
“I’d offer one-way tickets to leftists on the condition they don’t return until Trump’s gone.”
Unacceptable.... never to return upon penalty of.....
Come on. Gotta leave the door open. They can learn. I don’t think too many lefties have seen how backwards the rest of the world can be-even the good ones.
No doubt the Democrats will continue this when they get a chance and then suck all the money off for their personal use.
That is totally true in almost every case.
I was trying to get something fixed and the support team was in india, they kept delaying and doing stuff wrong and closing the incident. One of my coworkers who was .Indian said “let me talk to them and I did. I dont know what he said, but I know the incident was resolved and stuff was back on line 90 seconds later.
Or on the condition they never return to America.
Sold to the highest bidder, has nothing to do with talent.
Who buying this bs? Oh wait...
Obliviously we need more upper caste Indians or CCP paid iniltrators/s
