Long Beach police have arrested two men accused of stealing plaques from the statue of Martin Luther King Jr. at MLK Park late last month, authorities announced Thursday.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the theft occurred in the early morning hours of Nov. 27, when two suspects removed several plaques from the MLK statue and loaded them into the bed of a pickup truck before leaving the area.
Detectives launched an investigation immediately, collecting security camera footage, canvassing the surrounding area and reviewing Automatic License Plate Reader data. That work ultimately led to the identification and arrest of both suspects, police said.
Sean Green, a 44-year-old Long Beach resident, was arrested on Dec. 9 and charged with grand theft. A second suspect, Anthony Martinez, a 34-year-old Downey resident, was arrested on Dec. 11 and booked on charges of grand theft, conspiracy and possession of methamphetamine, according to LBPD.
Surveillance footage released by police shows a pickup truck stopping near the statue at MLK Park during the overnight hours. One person is seen getting out of the vehicle and walking toward the statue area while bright headlights illuminate the sidewalk. The individual appears to remove items and return to the truck, where the property is placed into the vehicle’s bed before the suspects drive away.

Expert police work swiftly brings these criminals to justice. Their serious crimes shall not be repeated! They will pay their debt to society!
Meanwhile, over at Brown University ... not much going on.
Wish someone would steal the VERY UGLY MLK statue in DC.
Meth heads stealing brass to get $10 at the scrap dealer. Some tweakers did that in Oregon.
How the hell do you explain to a scrapper (crooks for the most part) that you just happen to want to recycle a famous statue. BUT... Of course, democrats can destroy all the statues they want.

If they need a break, I could step in for tonight's press conference:
"Good question, we're working that as part of our investigation". Next.
"We are investigating that, our partners are all working that. Now over to The President of Brown: "Hello, no, I'm not familiar with the classes taught here, they pay me 3million a year to socialize, next
Can’t find the Brown U shooter, but there are cameras watching this?!?
Not in DC, but I thought you were referring to the abstract MLK statue in Boston, called “The Embrace”, unveiled January, 2023. $10. Million paid to the Artist.
Most people hated it and/or were confused by what they were seeing.
Megyn Kelly remarked that ‘It looks like a giant penis!’/
Shining lights on the crime scene doesn't work when security cameras are everywhere... well except at places where conservatives are shot at point blank range and illegals are protected... and 'elites' run the 'University'...
Once meth was mentioned in the article the reason for theft did become quite obvious didn’t it?
Keep that commie loving faulse gospel preaching bust everywhere, but up Frederick Douglas and give HIM the Holiday instead.
Pull down.
And then melt it down to make a statue of a far more worthy American patriot.
This is how we will come to embrace the global surveillance infrastructure...one crime at a time.
“Can’t find the Brown U shooter, but there are cameras watching this?!?”
The plan is that given a near-infinite amount of time, the killer will inevitably wander in front of the press conference cameras and be nabbed by bored reporters. It was Mayor McCheezy’s best idea.
Grim but probably closest to reality.
I nominate:

My man Booker T Washington.
“AND NOW Sports”
That grotesque sculpture looks like a giant turn being held in someone’s hands. It is horrible.
Stop posting racist crap.
Grow up.
